Homecoming Carnival Post I | The Park | Friday, October 20

The park had been transformed into the traditional Homecoming Carnival, open for everyone: students, teachers, townies and of course for visiting alumni.

"My children aren't screw ups," Anakin said. "I'm more than a halfway decent pilot. I can still help protect this island, no matter how ridiculous the problem becomes."

Those were all excellent things, actually. Kanan nodded, ignoring how much that kid thing made his brain twitch.

"Huh," he said, tilting his head a bit. "Yeah, okay, that's... that's a bunch of stuff to be proud of, right there."

It was funny, now that the conversation had taken this turn. Kanan didn't know how he'd answer the same question.

"I also have amazing hair," Anakin added, mostly to give Kanan an out from the icky emotions.

"Yeah, yeah. You and everyone else here with hair," he pointed out. "You have looked around here, right?"

"Mine's still better," Anakin said, pointing to someone at random. "That's terrible."

Kanan blinked over in the direction Anakin had pointed. And then bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing outright.

"Okay, fair enough," he allowed. "They're setting a pretty low bar, there."

"Did they glue some kind of animal to their head?" Anakin wondered.

"What, like Hutts do?" Kanan looked thoughtful. "I mean, around here, I wouldn't be surprised."

"The day a Hutt shows up either as a teacher or a student is the day I retire," Anakin declared with a shudder.

"What would they even teach?"

"Kind of afraid to think of the strain of students who'd be drawn to that class," Anakin admitted.

"I'd start naming the most likely candidates, but that's like an invitation for the island to haul one here or something."

So help Kanan, he didn't want to laugh at any of Anakin's jokes, but there he was.

"Yeah, I surprise even myself sometimes."
