"That's all right. I haven't been around in a while," Jack grinned. "How have you been?"

"Good. Terrifyingly busy, but good," she said. "How are you, besides hungry?"

"Hungry's usually a safe guess," Jack said, because werewolf. "No, I'm happy. I'm finally getting my career started, and the nice thing about being in New York is I'm never the strangest person in the room. Are you still on the island?"

"Yep. Still here, but I'm back to working in my New York for part of the week," she said. "You want strange, try teenage X-students."

"I can believe it," Jack said. "I don't run into Emma's students much, but Kennedy still sends us baby slayers to put up. They have to be almost as bad."

She would expect that of Emma, actually.

"Not people who slay babies," Jack clarified (since yeah, that did sound like Emma). "Girls who just got Called to become Slayers, like Kennedy was. The ones who are training in New York sometimes stay with us, since we have the space."

"Oh. ...Where are you living in New York that you actually have space?"

Because she'd been to the city.

"Townhouse in Greenwich Village," Jack explained. "It's not as big as all that, but it has space for five or six people if they'll share rooms."

And Emma had made some very good investments.

"And cramming people into spaces is the New York way," she said. "Which is why I'm cool with the school being upstate and then visiting the city."

Usually because something was invading, but still.
