Turtle & Canary; Friday [11/03].
Amaya still didn't know what that was on Tuesday; all she knew was that it was weird and she didn't like it and it was over now, so at least there was that. She didn't really appreciate weird stuff where she wasn't really herself, so she was looking forward to a pretty boring, basic day at the store, only to discover that it didn't look like she'd have that at all.
"What is all this stuff?" she asked when she came in and found Apu already busy at putting up a bunch of displays; it looked like something had exploded red and green, silver and white all over the place, snowflakes and fake trees and candy canes everywhere she turned.
Apu explained that it was everything for the holiday season, especially Christmas. "But...wait. We went over this, didn't we? I thought there was another one of these holidays between Halloween and Christmas. The Turkey One. Thanksgiving. What about that one?"
And Apu explained that this was tradition. As soon as Halloween got out of the way, you were supposed to start putting up Christmas stuff, and then he assured her that Thanksgiving was not being forgotten, see, there was a small section right here with things with turkeys and Pilgrims on them, plenty of cornucopia and, of course, more pumpkins and gourds.
Amaya just shook her head. "This place is weird," she said. "I liked the sound of that Thanksgiving one."
It involved food! And what kind of society placed more emphasis on a gift-giving holiday than a harvest-type one? Harvests, you know, the cornerstone of nearly any society she'd ever been a part of it...
Whatever, at least she could speak normally today and didn't have an unquenchable thirst for....not vine.

Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
"Sure," she said, hitching her thumb in a general direction, "that'd be aisle
handwavey, but there's a pet store in town, too. You might have better luck there."Oh, Amaya. But at least she was trying to be helpful, and perhaps just wanted to seem knowledgeable, even if she mostly just knew it because the pet store was next door to her house.
"What kind of pet have you got? And what are you looking for?"
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Preferably ones that squeaked.
"He'll probably inherit them when I'm done with them, though."
He was going to be the squeaky toy guy now, wasn't he?
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
"When you're done with them?"
Sorry, Kanan. If you were a grown man coming into her shop looking for soft toys, you were going to get a lifted eyebrow. Especially if you sounded like a soft toy that she had previously...uh...met?
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
"Wha-- Oh, no, it's for sword training," he said, holding up his hands in a sort of 'hold up, I'm innocent here' gesture. "I have a student I'm trying to teach some hand-eye coordination to, and she didn't much care for the idea of me throwing pebbles at her, so I decided I might as well go with a slightly less dangerous, more amusing option."
One that squeaked.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
So, so new.
"I don't know how the really cute ones will work, mind. I want her to want to hit them, after all."
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
That lead them to the small selection of pet toys, which Amaya scanned quickly and could only conclude that the people who designed these things were sadistic weirdos. They had to know that the whole point of these toys were to have animals all but tear them to pieces. She frowned, not feeling particularly confident in finding something of the Not Cute variety.
"Oh!" she brightened as she reached for something and held it out. "How about this? This is clearly an abomination."
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Kanan was only slightly sadistic. It was a Jedi thing.
"That... that is horrifying," he shared, blinking. "What is it?"
Besides an abomination, of course.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
"I think I'm going to have to," he decided, looking at it with sustained horror for another few seconds before making a reach for a few more toys on the shelf. "This is actually a pretty impressive selection, I have to say. I could've gone to the pet store, but Stance has come to associate there with treats. I'd never get to the park in time."
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
She was making an assumption, of course, but she figured if she assumed wrong, that would come back around to him eventually.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
That was how you put out an eye.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
And he had captured Amaya's attention even more. "Tell me more about these big things that attack," she said with a perhaps slightly disturbing glint in her eyes.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
He'd been a really stupid kid.
"That depends," he shared. "I've seen a few different things, though the one that sticks out most in my mind involved people meeting mindless, murderous alternate versions of themselves. It was..." He waved the squeaky beaver around a little. "Interesting."
Disturbing. It had been disturbing as hell.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
"What," she said. "No. When you said something big, I thought you meant dragons or ogres or trolls, not existential crises walking on two legs. That sounds terrifying."
And something she definitely didn't sign up for. Granted, she hadn't signed up for this store, either, but...here she was.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Ugh, the sharks.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
She gestured with her hands, because she didn't even want to bother with the words for that sort of thing.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
If, say, they were Force sensitive and prone to actually go looking to see what they felt like, that way.
"The island isn't a death trap. Not so far. It's just... occasionally overwhelming."
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
For someone who despised feelings, Amaya certainly didn't have a problem wearing her hatred of them right there on her puffy sleeves.
"Well noted. Thanks for the advice." And since she had about her fill of that topic, she added, "I wouldn't want to keep you much longer, especially not with that dog of yours outside waiting. I'd offer a treat on the house, but then he'd start getting the same idea about here as he does the pet store. I hope they'll work out for your training,...err, uhh, I don't think I caught your name?"
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
He didn't want to assume that her vampire name was what she wanted to be called, now.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
"So that was you at that party!" Amaya declared, not sure if she was more excited that she guessed it by his voice or more confused that it had been something to be guessed in the first place. "Either that, or there's a another soft toy floating around out there with your voice and your name."
In case he didn't know. If there was a soft toy floating around with her name and her voice, she'd definitely want to know. And then find out which of her axes cut through soft toys best.
Re: Talk to Amaya - 11/03.
Such as right now, here. Being perfectly visible, and all.
"I wasn't actually the toy."
Just throwing that out there.
