Demon Marcus, Sunday

You know... the Christmas lights that were strung up all around the Demon Marcus this morning were actually kind of pretty? Not that Sparkle much cared, since they were also not doing much for the state of his head today. For starters, he resented the hell out of this time of year. As much as he liked pretty sparkly things (it was right in the name, after all), there was something about well-decorated festive surroundings that almost always made him feel uneasy. Maybe a bit bitter.

Maybe a lot bitter.

But, for another, even though he'd been trying to pace himself last night while out drinking with Seivarden, and even though he was drinking plenty of water today, the extra blinking lights weren't exactly helping with the hangover today, either. What crazy person went to a bar and ordered an entire bottle of whiskey?

Seivarden, apparently.

So, when the lights knocked the power out and left Sparkle sitting, blinking, in the dark, he maybe didn't exactly hurry to go check the breakers, either. Ah. This was nice.

Hannibal bowed. "Always. Though I'm pleased to see you are as well. The lights are festive, if gaudy, when they work, but the island seems to be enjoying leaving us in the dark today."

"Eh, I can take or leave the lights," Sparkle replied, looking around the store. "It'd be one thing if they stayed on, but I'm not running laps around the store just to check the breakers every three minutes."

And he was a big ol' humbug in general anyway.

[sharp_man]

"Understandable," Hannibal said. "Fortunately, everything should be fine by tomorrow. And we'll have some other oddity to deal with, I'm sure."

He set out silverware and napkins and plated everything nicely.

[myownface]

"Right up until everything goes to hell," Sparkle agreed, "because it's December."

And not a December went by without at least some trauma.

Sparkle fucking hated this month.

[sharp_man]

"And then there are the holidays," Hannibal noted. "Do you have plans yet?"

[myownface]

"Plans? Nah," Sparkle said, shrugging his shoulders. "I mean, I spend most of December pretending we aren't on the express train to Christmas hell. Doesn't lend itself well to plans."

[sharp_man]

"We'll be having both Alluka and Lucille over for the holidays," Hannibal said. "I would love to have you as well. We have plenty of room, and there are powerful magic wards on the building."

[myownface]

Sparkle frowned thoughtfully as he reached for his fork.

"I mean, I do like Alluka and Lucille," he allowed. "Wards are a definite bonus..."

[sharp_man]

And Hannibal did like to think he himself was an added incentive, even if Sparkle wasn't saying as much.

"I wouldn't mind a hand with decorating, and we could cook the holiday meals together," he added.

[myownface]

Dammit, Hannibal. You were making it hard for Sparkle to ignore that stupid damn holiday.

"I haven't gotten presents for anybody."

That could most definitely change by Christmas.

[sharp_man]

Hannibal shrugged. "It isn't required, but there is still time if you'd like. I still have some shopping to do myself, so perhaps a trip to the mainland would be in order."

[myownface]

Sparkle was squinting down at his food now, mostly because it was easier than squinting up at Hannibal.

"I think I'm good for trips to the mainland for a while," he noted. "I'll see if I can get Amazon to deliver on time."

It lacked that personal touch, and also lacked most opportunity for kidnapping.

[sharp_man]

"Also an option," Hannibal allowed.

He didn't have to worry about kidnapping so long as he didn't go back to his home dimension.

Not that Sparkle had to worry much about that, either, since he was already staying with Hannibal.

[myownface]

"Yeah," Sparkle echoed. "Also an option."

He paused a moment. And then sighed and gave his meal a try. Okay. Yeah. That was nice. Not that he expected any less.

"Christmas day, huh?"

[sharp_man]

"You may visit for the day if you would prefer," Hannibal said. "I was hoping you could stay with us a little longer. It might be safer," might, because thank you, Fandom, "and I know the girls would enjoy having you around."

[myownface]

Sparkle gave his shoulders a shrug.

"I mean, usually the nightmare bullshit is over by Christmas," he noted. Because Fandom. "But if anything shitty hits, I'll keep that in mind. Atton's usually got a pretty good emergency plan going through December, too."

[sharp_man]

Hannibal nodded. "Whenever you choose to arrive, you will be welcome. I'll keep your room prepared."
