"Zounds!"
When Apu had called Amaya to let her know that the Squishy machine was acting up, she was hardly surprised. That thing was a big piece of junk that was nothing but a pain in her patootie. But what did surprise her was the manner in which it was acting up when she arrived at the store, which was unlike anything she had ever seen.
The thing was practically bouncing, moving up and down, getting squat and low, then stretching thin as it went toward the ceiling, all the while emitting the strangest sproingy-sproingy sound. A stream of Red Squishy was flowing endlessly (thankfully Apu had put down a bucket) from the nozzle, and red squiggly lines and yellow lightning bolts of energy were emitting from it into the air.
When she hit it with a hammer, the hammer boy-yo-yooooing'd back, then flew out of her hand and hit...something glass. All she heard was a crash, but there was no actual broken glass to be found. Then she tried to pry the casing open with her screwdriver...it flew open and released a shower of gears and springs, nuts and bolts...and a heavy piece of machinery that went flying across the store, straight into Apu's head.
Apu fell back into a pyramid of cereal (when had that even gotten there?), sending Cheerios and Froot Loops scattering while he sat there amongst the mess, head wavering back and forth with spirals for eyes and birds flying around his head.
"Apu!" Amaya rushed over, kneeling down beside him, waving the little birds away. "Are you okay?"
Shaking his head, the spirals disappeared and Apu held his aching noggin with a groan. "I am fine," he assured her after a distressed moment. "But I think today we'd best be careful around our machinery..."
