Prom 2018, Community Center, Friday Evening

Sure, the extreme winter weather had come and gone, but it had clearly still been on the minds of those in Student Council when they'd planned tonight's dance, as the theme went in the complete opposite direction.

Welcome, Fandom, to a tropical paradise!

There were palm trees, of course... as well as giant tissue-paper flowers hanging from the ceiling and brightly colored cutouts of frogs and parrots decorating the walls. Possibly with a good deal more glitter than one would usually associate with such a theme, but this was Fandom.

Anders let out a low, appreciative whistle.

"You're going to corrupt a few poor, innocent teenagers, looking like that," he teased her. "Nice work."

He hadn't done much of anything special for prom -- crisp white collarless shirt, black pants, hair slicked back. A touch of eyeliner was his only concession to the special night.

Kathy turned and grinned at him, gratified by his appreciation. "I have to admit, I do have my eye on two young men I'd like to corrupt tonight."

Her eyes traveled up and down his body, teeth closing down on her lower lip as she noticed the eyeliner. Hnnngh, that was hot. "You look really good yourself," she said, voice gone a little husky.

"Had to keep up with you two," Anders said, grinning self-consciously. "Even if it took raiding your makeup bag."

He reached for her hand, wanting to touch so much more.

"You're welcome to it anytime," Kathy assured him, taking his hand and offering a kiss in return. A light one, more sweet than anything else, but with an underlying promise of Later. She swayed closer to him, feeling each inch of distance keenly. "I'm looking forward to seeing you just in that eyeliner later," she murmured, lips grazing his ear.

“Say the word and it’ll happen,” Anders said, leaning forward to whisper in return. “Even if it’s right in the middle of the dance floor.”

Kathy shivered, bringing up her hand to bite down on a knuckle. "If I felt like sharing you with the whole school, I might be more inclined to take you up on that."

But maybe in a dark corner somewhere? No, bad. Kathy stop.

"But if Dante decides he wants to stay till the bitter end, we're ducking out and heading for a broom closet at some point."

"I can't imagine Dante staying much past whenever they throw a crown at him," Anders confided. "If he does ... that broom closet might get a work-out."

"I'm just saying, we haven't even gotten to the refreshment table yet and I'm already eyeing the shadowy corners," Kathy confided. "...Though we haven't even gotten to the refreshment table yet. How does Dante already have a slice of pizza?"

"Maybe he brought it with him," Anders said, blinking at their boyfriend. "Wait, is there room in those pants to fit pizza in the pocket?"

"I'm not sure there's actually enough room for him in those pants," Kathy admitted, giving Dante another lazy once over. Because, mm, dem pants. "Is that another Nephilim power? Pizza summoning?"

"I think you have to be on to something there," Anders said seriously. "He keeps the power secret because he's worried we'd only love him for that."

He, too, was giving Dante's pants a good up-and-down gaze. That was what they were for, wasn't it?

"I don't know about you, but I'm personally loving him for his power of filling out his pants like that a lot more than I would for pizza," Kathy said, chuckling into Anders' shoulder.

"Hmmm," Anders said, with a throaty little laugh. "Not sure. They're both full of tasty treats I can't get enough of."

"My appetite for pizza is strictly less than either yours or Dante's," she said, that laugh of his making her insides clench in the most pleasurable of ways. "And it's much, much less than my appetite for...other things."

Like kissing. And, with Anders here and laughing like that, she was suddenly very hungry.

Anders kissed her back just as fiercely, tasting mint and lipstick. He was smirking when they came apart.

"I shouldn't tell you this," he said, "but once Dante and I ended up in the men's room before a dance. Couldn't wait to get home."

"You mean last year, during prom?" Kathy asked, eyebrow raised. The side of her mouth kicked up in a wry grin. "I know. I spotted you two sneaking out while I was talking to Eliot."

She and Dante'd had a talk about it the other day and everything.

"You should have said something," Anders protested, wincing a bit. "Or come join us. Or both."

He'd honestly thought she wasn't paying attention.

The perils of sneaking out with someone wearing a bright shock of red. And for a few months after she'd come back, she'd been pretty hyper-vigilant.

"Pretty sure I wouldn't have been welcome," she reminded gently. "Dante and I were still trying to figure out how to talk to each other. You and I were better, but..."

There had still been some spikes there, too.

"And I didn't feel I had a right to say anything back then. And by the time I did, it wasn't something I was thinking about anymore." She squeezed his hand, letting him know she was okay. They were okay. "And I'm never gonna stop you from ducking out with Dante. I only ever want a head's up."

"Well, now I feel bad we did it," Anders said quietly. "I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking from your point of view, I suppose."

"Hey," Kathy said, tugging him into a hug. "It's water under the bridge. Last year was--hard. Really hard. For all of us. You weren't used to needing to considering how I might feel about stuff anymore."

She leaned up, touching her forehead to his. "We aren't there anymore. So long as we try to be better in the future, that's what matters to me."

"All right," Anders said warily. "I'll try to be better, but I wish I'd been better then."

Kathy couldn't help but laugh a little bit. "If we're changing what we did in the past, that's still really low on the list," she told him. "There's all of LA for me to fix first, so I think you're still pretty solid."
