Prom 2018, Community Center, Friday Evening

Sure, the extreme winter weather had come and gone, but it had clearly still been on the minds of those in Student Council when they'd planned tonight's dance, as the theme went in the complete opposite direction.

Welcome, Fandom, to a tropical paradise!

There were palm trees, of course... as well as giant tissue-paper flowers hanging from the ceiling and brightly colored cutouts of frogs and parrots decorating the walls. Possibly with a good deal more glitter than one would usually associate with such a theme, but this was Fandom.

Kathy had spent the afternoon helping Ringo and Alluka get ready for their first prom, texting the guys that she'd meet them at the Community Center. Since this was Dante's senior prom, she'd shown up in red with a cropped leather jacket and a pair of fingerless leather gloves as well.

She figured if anyone would appreciate a bit of punk with her prom, it'd be her guys.

Anders let out a low, appreciative whistle.

"You're going to corrupt a few poor, innocent teenagers, looking like that," he teased her. "Nice work."

He hadn't done much of anything special for prom -- crisp white collarless shirt, black pants, hair slicked back. A touch of eyeliner was his only concession to the special night.

Breq hadn't wasted money on new clothes, but was wearing her nicest t-shirt and pair of jeans. She still wasn't used to actually participating in an event like this, but felt she could just as well get used to it, especially as a StuCo member.

Screw it. Dante didn't care about prom, but it was gonna be his last prom, so he was showing up in tight jeans, no shirt, and a short, red leather jacket dangling casually off his shoulders.

He had also managed to pick up a slice of Hawaiian pizza somewhere already.

Not for the first time, Theron tugged the sleeves of his robes down to little effect. The hems stubbornly rested several centimetres above his wrists, something they most definitely hadn't done when he'd been given them at the temple.

Possibly he needed to invest in more clothing.

Jason did not have a date. He did, however, have Kimberly Hart a Skype call away, and so she'd helped him pick out a maroon dress shirt and dark grey tie to wear tonight. If this had been Angel Grove, he would've skipped the school dance without a second thought, but here, well. He didn't mind so much.

Look, Yang knew what looked good on her. She had legs for years, hair full of secrets, and wore golds like the entire concept of the color been created just for her.

Tai would murder her if he ever saw this dress, but, well, unless Ruby ratted her out by showing him one of the selfies she'd sent her sister, he'd never ever know.

Tonight she planned to party. And the best way to do that was to let her inner dragon out to play.

Honestly, Hyacinthe might not have even bothered making it to prom save for two things: 1) he had found a suit absolutely worthy for a modern Tsingano lad and 2: he had a date too beautiful to keep behind closed doors, no matter how much he really wanted to keep her behind closed doors.

"You know, rinkeni," he murmured into Ada's ear, "if I had known it was going to be like this when I asked you to be my date for prom, I'd have told you to come earlier and to leave your dress at home."

No plastic leis or tiki-themed anything here, but still plenty of tropical-island-inspired props to help you get your prom photo mojo on!

Food & Punch [Prom 2018]

The usual spread of goodies, with an emphasis on flavors that included banana, coconut, and pineapple, as well as punch (once again, there were two bowls, along with a request that one remain un-spiked for those who didn't or couldn't enjoy the spiked variety).

There was also a large selection of pizza. Because reasons.

Playing all today's greatest dance hits... as well as those from other eras as well. And planets. The DJ has an excellent repertoire.

No, Breq wasn't dancing, but she ended up having an exciting conversation with the DJ and ended up encouraging her to play some interesting experimental songs too.

Yeah, this is where people would find Yang all night. Dancing alone or with a partner, she didn't really care. With someone would be more fun, but when you looked this good, you didn't wait around for other people to entertain you. You hit the dance floor and enjoyed yourself.

For those who felt like coming out to the dance but don't actually want to dance. Maybe you're hanging out by yourself, maybe you're making out with your date. Whatever works!

Anders didn't think of himself as the broody type -- and, really, how could he be with the dates he had? -- but he found himself in a corner later in the evening anyhow. He sipped his drink and thought back to all his other school dances, realizing this was likely the very last.

Verity might have been a chaperone, but it had been a hell of a week and she had a whole closet of dresses and gowns that she used to perform in. The purple number she was wearing was, in fact, rather on the conservative side, considering most of her performance dresses were fringe, glue, and prayers.

Her heels were rather ridiculous, but she had been dancing in six inch heels since high school. And, as short as she was, ridiculously tall heels were the only way for her to achieve the height she needed to be taken seriously.

Jono, at least, was going to be more well behaved. He'd wrapped up, after all, and he was more or less immune to the effects of the pollen, so long as he was careful to keep his psionic guard up.

He wasn't supervising the punch so much as the dance floor, tonight, ready to drag anybody out of here bodily who couldn't save it for their own rooms later.

Jenkins had not yet perfected his antidote, and even immortals sometimes needed a break from working, so he decided to go ahead and chaperone prom. He'd observed the ritual before, primarily in movies from the 1950s and 60s, and was curious to see if the floor would open up and dump everyone into a swimming pool at some point.

Frankly, that wasn't a bad idea for at least temporarily disrupting the effects of the local flora. . . .

"I'll be quick - the votes have been tallied, and I'm pleased to announce that your junior kings and queen are Jason Lee Scott, Khadgar, and Peridot, and your senior king and queen are Eric Bittle and Summer Smith. Congratulations to all of you, and enjoy your crowns." She almost suggested giving them to kids tomorrow, but she certainly wasn't going to jinx anything.

You know the one thing I miss about LJ? How you could embed YouTube videos in comments. I'm going to link (totes worksafe) to this one anyway, because even though it's been 11 years, it still makes me laugh.

And then I'm going to go collapse and die, because work was physically and emotionally exhausting tonight.
