The Park, Friday Afternoon

Leaving the island for the majority of the week had been a good idea. Not that Kanan couldn't resist temptation, granted, but there were times when a guy had to distance himself from the really tempting stuff. Particularly when there were outside influences involved. Maybe he and Hera would have that kind of relationship someday, but if they did, he didn't want it to be because the island was up to something stupid now.

That said, he had responsibilities on the island as well, and so he'd come back in time for his usual training in the park today, taking that extra energy and refocusing it into sparring with a simple training remote he'd rigged up using blaster bits and other shrapnel he'd picked off of troopers over this past week. The lightsaber was out because of course it was, Kanan had blindfolded himself, and that remote was absoultely not surviving the day.

He kind of had a history of destroying the things, to Master Yoda's eternal exasperation and Master Billaba's eternal amusement, which was one of the reasons he typically didn't bother.

This one lasted a whole hour before his lightsaber swung through it and it exploded about a half-meter away from his face, at least. That had to be a record.

Seivarden arrived with Issa and a rather conspicious black she. Should anyone ask she might go on a rant about uncivilized people in Baltimore, but she kept a distance to Kanan, and just put Issa down om the ground.

Kanan? Still blindfolded. But he'd had a long talk with Stance about what was and wasn't for, uh, entertaining himself with, including ducks and Seivarden's cat, so he was pretty sure today wasn't going to end in him having to strangle somebody.

Blindfolded also meant he couldn't see the black eye. Be grateful, Seivarden. He wouldn't even try to hide his smirk.

Stance was doing a little prance-dance as he noticed his friend nearby.

Actually, Seivarden had taken Issa to the park because she was getting tired of the cat walking around the apartment wailing. At least there had never been other cats in the park.

Issa was still wailing though, and rolling around on the ground.

Seivarden sighed. She glanced at Kanan, and then smirked a little at the blindfold.

Fortunately, Kanan wasn't blindfolded for Seivarden's benefit. The remote fired off a few more shots, and Kanan deflected all of them easily.

Stance, meanwhile, pranced over and whined a hello. He was behaving himself, see? Behaaaving.

Seivarden would actually have found it disturbing if the reason behind the blindfold had anything to do with her. Now she was more concerned with Issa, who didn't seem to be very playful at all today. She got to her feet, at least, and approached Stance, sounding as if she was in pain.

If the reason behind Kanan's blindfold was Seivarden, this week of all weeks? Something would be terribly wrong.

Stance kind of pranced from foot to foot. Oh no. Oh boy, oh no. His person had told him to be good.

Kanan, meanwhile, was grimacing at that yowl. That was definitely a cat-in-the-pollen yowl, wasn't it?

This was when Seivarden realized just how bad this idea had been.

"Oh, fuck."

She hurried after Issa, calling to Kanan:

"Can you just keep your dog away from cat!"

Issa now purred loudly.

Yeah, Kanan was rolling his eyes. Very expressively. Even under the blindfold.

"He's just standing there," Kanan called out. He didn't even have to look to see. "Your cat is the one putting the moves on him."

Jackass.

Seivarden now reached Issa and scooped her up in her arms. Issa wailed, perhaps complaining. It was hard to tell.

"We're leaving now," she announced, annoyed.

By this point in the week Rey had reached something beyond crabby that was weirdly almost calm (at least for the moment), and she didn’t know if Kanan would be here today, but she was going anyway.

“Oh good, you’re back.”

"I do take some responsibilities seriously," Kanan replied, glancing over his shoulder. Sort of. Not that he could see Rey with his blindfold on. "I figure there'll be enough going on with sparring that whatever's in the air shouldn't be too much of an issue."

“Yeah. I was hoping to hit things,” she admitted. “Is the blindfold so you don’t have to look at anyone?”

This was a valid choice as far as she was concerned.

Kanan tilted his head, and then laughed, reaching up to take it off.

"It's so I can't see what the remote is doing," he explained, waving at the rough-around-the-edges bobbling round thing that he'd made to keep his hands busy. "It shoots, I parry the blaster bolts. Way too easy to do when I have my eyes on it."

Parrying blaster bolts was not generally meant to be easy even with one's eyes, unless you were a Jedi, granted.

“That... sounds like a good way to get shot,” she said, more than a little concerned.

She was still so new.

Actually technically not even new, yet.

Kanan smiled faintly at that.

"They're low powered," he explained. "Enough I might get a little burn, but nothing too dangerous. If I get shot, I have it coming anyway."

If a Jedi got shot by a training remote, there was probably a reason for that.

“”That’s still a lot of trust in your skills,” Rey said, sounding a little impressed.

But not like, impressed. Even this week that’d be weird with him.

Yeah, little bit weird. Kanan shrugged a little.

"It's a lot of trust in the Force," he replied, switching the remote off so that it wouldn't shoot him in the back of his head or anything. "That's not quite the same thing."

It was a little bit the same thing.

Tip had almost decided not to show up for practice this week. It'd been an exhausting one, for one thing, and while Kanan was clearly too old, she knew better than to think her hormones would think about things like that.

But hitting things with sticks sounded somewhat more restful right now than staying home with the internet right nearby, so here she was.

"It didn't even occur to me to try a blindfold. Is it helping?"

"It is helping with--" Kanan deflected another shot from his remote, which pinged back at it and blew the damn thing up where it floated. He frowned, then reached up and pulled his blindfold off. "Oh."

Dammit.

"No, it was for training," he replied. "The pollen's still pollen."

"Right. I suppose even if you can't see the pretty people, you still know they're there."

"I do," Kanan agreed, sighing and shutting off his lightsaber. "I'm not bad at ignoring what I want, that doesn't hurt, I guess. The blindfold wouldn't do me much good, there."

"So what you're saying is, you're just showing off."

If Kanan thought Tip wasn't going to tease him this week, he was sadly mistaken.

Kanan ducked his head and laughed a little, shaking his head.

"Not entirely, actually," he replied. Though there was always a little bit of that. "If I'm going to be fighting the Empire, I want to be able to know where I'm about to get shot from even if I'm not looking. That's what the remote was for."

"That little dinky thing is representing the whole empire?"

"Well, hopefully the entire Empire isn't going to be shooting at me at once," Kanan pointed out.
