Chilly Boulder, Late Sunday Morning
There were children. There were children everywhere, and at least two of them belonged to Ada Miller and had daddies with a sweet tooth. And one of them in particular really needed time with Ada.
It was only surprising they hadn't ended up here earlier.
"Okay, 'm paying, just don't order more'n you can eat."
[OOC: for some in particular, and open post!]

"Let's start with just a couple, we can get more later, I promise."

She was managing to keep her glances at her mother at just that - glances.
Mostly.

She was aware of the little glances, but didn't pay them much mind. A few moments later she was back with the drinks, while the employees worked on their requests. "An' one root beer float, too."

She drank in Ada the whole time she was at the counter. The way she moved, the way she talked.

She remembered how desperately Janie had wanted contact the last time, but didn't want to assume that was still the case.

Yeah, 'course it was.

"They'll bring us our ice cream in a snap," she promised, picking up her drink again. "Cheers. Here's to us getting so full of sugar that Dante's gonna want to run and hide. Or sulk, 'cause we didn't share none."

(It wasn't subtle at all.)

"Better idea," Ada said, eyes sparkling as she reached into her coat pocket to pull out her phone right as their ice cream arrived and was set in front of them. "Lean in a bit more, okay?"
Was she going to take a picture of both of them cuddled-up together with their towers of ice cream and send it to Dante? Yes, yes she was.

"Here we go," she said, holding up the phone and snapping the picture, before sending it off to Dante. "...your daddy let you have a phone yet, Janie-love? Or are we gonna go get you a prepaid emergency one while you're here?"
If it made Janie happy, Ada'd do pretty much anything for her. But a phone was easy, if she didn't have one yet; it might make her feel a bit more comfortable knowing she could find Dante and Ada at any time, she could take all the not-subtle pictures she wanted, and it might even work once she went home.

Good luck getting her to stop clinging to you now, though, Ada.

Clinging was fine. Good luck getting Ada to stop cuddling you, Janie.
Ada loved both these little girls so much that it felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest. But Zia at least had a mama that was mostly-there. Janie... hadn't. The first time she'd visited. Ada couldn't fix it, she couldn't stop it, but she could give both of them every little drop of affection and attention that they wanted, and try to give them both a good weekend with an Ada who could walk un-aided, and knew their names and their favorite colors and anything else they'd told her once, without needing to repeat themselves.

"I know Kat can usually talk sense into him, though."
