Knowing he wouldn't be there next week, Sidon was making an awful big deal about how much he'd miss all of the pets as he went about his feeding rounds. He regaled them with all sorts of stories about similar animals or some things completely unrelated, mistaking their excitement to borne from how captivating and interesting he was when, really, they were merely stoked about the food. He could be speaking complete gibberish (and to many of them, he was), and they'd still be completely thrilled, because he had the food.

The vet had a harder time of it, but she was still pretty well-versed in just nodding and smiling while working when Sidon was in one of his chatty moods. And hope he took it to heart when she insisted that, no, really, he didn't need to bring her back a present, but she doubted it would get through.
