Turtle & Canary; Sunday [05/20].
Sure, Amaya had gotten used to coming into the shop and finding something surprising, and if she thought about it, she supposed she might have expected this one, but, still, it was a bit of a shock to step into Turtle & Canary that Sunday and find the place nearly littered with a various bits of macramé art. Which had apparently all been made by Apu over the last few days. When prompted for an explanation, he simply shrugged and said he had merely taken into account the suggestion that they learn about it before Wednesday.
"...are you even participating in the summer camp activities?" Amaya asked.
He wasn't. He just wanted to practice anyway. He said he wanted to give it a try and see what all the fuss was about, and once he started, he couldn't stop. And so now they had a store with an apparently soon-to-be-topical specific theme.
Which would explain the big "Half Off All Macramé Art" sign that was up in the window within the hour. And maybe Amaya finally got around to tossing up the "Now Hiring!' sign up there, too, just in the off chance any of the newer faces on the island were interested in some employment. Meanwhile, she was just going take one of those creepy macramé owls and...reverse engineer how it was made. Yeah, that was it.

"Do you sell rum here, and if so, how much do you think it'd take to bribe the average squirrel?"
She was unsure about these things.
no subject
Except duct tape, apparently. Who even knew why anymore?
"If we don't have it now," she amended, "we can get it in, but, believe me, we've got rum in spades. And I guess it'll depend on which squirrel you're bribing and what you're bribing them for. Can't go wrong with a bottle of something nice, though, they'll likely get a few good hours out of it."

Did squirrels have livers?

Amaya grinned faintly. "In my experience with the squirrels on this island so far," she offered, "if the mood strikes them, they're fond of sharing. And usually that mood goes along with someone else footing the bill. But be careful when you start gettin' involved in squirrel bribery. Once you start, they start to...expect it. Good luck if you start in now, and then everything else you do on the island suddenly becomes an opportunity for extortion."
Squirrels, she found, no matter where she lived, seem to have very loose morals.

Handwavey," Amaya nodded, adding a gesture. "Can't miss it. And, hey, when you pick out something you like, I'll even throw in this nifty macramé bottle cozy for free. Today only."She thought about actually trying to sell the thing, but she honestly just wanted all this stuff gone.

And now Amaya was a little curious whether the girl was up to something, or if it was just a good, honest desire for privacy, the latter of which she could certainly understand. Zounds, even the first one, too.
"I do the Thursday morning for Wednesday, if that helps," she offered.
no subject
Yeah, not up to anything. Just a private person.

She shrugged. "Anyway, your total will be
Handwaveydollars andhandwaveycents, with two..." she sucked in a breath, looked momentarily ill, "uh, beautiful, free bottle cozies thrown in. And what's your name? So I know who to look out for when I get my notes?"no subject

"Name's Amaya, by the way," she said as she handed over the bag, the clanking of the bottles nicely reduced by the cozies. "Amaya Blackstone. Nice to meet you, Sabine. And good luck with those squirrels."
