The Beach, Late Thursday Afternoon
Perhaps Octavia ought to have brought something other than her sword to the beach today. She was aware that people sometimes sparred with weapons made of wood, or ones that were otherwise made less harmful. But Octavia had never owned anything like that. And even if she had, there wasn't a chance in Hell that the island would've actually let her bring it with her.
Also she wasn't all that interested in things that weren't harmful, anyway.
So she was standing on the beach with her sword in its scabbard at her back, looking out towards the water while she waited for Magnus to show up. Time to see who could knock who off their feet.
[ooc: O is primarily here for the one mentioned, but feel free to catch her before he arrives! Otherwise, open place in town is open.]

"Hey, Octavia!"

"Hey, Magnus." Her greeting was lacking in cheer, shockingly. "So you actually showed up, huh?"
Okay, there was some humor in that, if you listened for it. Dry and faint, but there.

Please, as if that was something she was familiar with. It was another rant waiting to happen.

And judging by her tone, money was the devil. Or at least a thing she wasn't particularly fond of. Still, she took a careful sip.

But today, she was going to sip her coffee and just decide not to ask. That, anyway. "How are you so happy all the time?"
no subject
"Well, I'm not always happy, but when I can pick, I want to pick happiness."
no subject
It seemed like the most logical question.

So, really, he did it to avoid the embarrassment.
"Plus, I gotta balance out Taako and Merle most of the time."
no subject
But she wasn't going to, not right now. She could figure out enough from the context. Instead, she asked, "And Taako and Merle are...? Your friends?"
no subject
Well, he did. He really did.
no subject
"Well, that could be smart of him."
Not in relation to Magnus, probably, but just in general.

"So, are we going to fight or not?"

"Sword against sword," she said, instead.
Even though hers was most closely related to a repurposed machete rather than anything he was likely to have in his arsenal.

"Cool!" he said brightly, removing the other items from his inventory to set to the side. That included the shield because it was only fair.

But Octavia was a little more preoccupied with how she was fairly certain that what he set aside seemed to maybe be more than he should've been carrying.
She was tilting her head, for sure.

"Just this."
But it had served her well in the past.
