The beach- Tuesday morning
With Juliet coming to spend the summer on Hapes, Jaina was getting a little bit of time here. She was still crazy busy most of the time, and the boys were almost a year now and already into everything, but she'd learned that there were benefits to at least being talked into taking tiny breaks now and then. Like now. And the real benefit was getting to do stuff like train without anyone needing her for anything.
Look, she'd grown up, but it wasn't like she'd become a whole new person or anything.
Once she'd gotten settled, she headed for the beach. She had her comlink on her for when someone inevitably called, but at least for now it was just her, her lightsaber, and a juiced-up remote that she could put on the highest setting so that it shot almost too fast. And because she was Jaina, she kept her eyes closed as she batted away bolts, showing off for no one but herself, because she was really good at showing off.
[Of course she's going to be in town this week. Open!]

He wasn't sure what was grabbing his attention more; the fact that there was a person training with a lightsaber on the beach at all, or the deftness and confidence that she was displaying while dealing with a remote that was most certainly not set to 'beginner.'
He was kind of entranced by the whole demonstration, admittedly. He hadn't seen somebody else doing this in a long, long while.

Yeah, showing off. She didn't get to do that nearly enough these days.

"It's a good show so far," he said, keeping his tone casual. "Don't let me stop you... Jaina, was it? We spoke at the bar, back when Skywalker rounded up everybody from home."

She hadn't met that many new people, it was easy enough to remember.

"Oh, he absolutely cheats," she agreed. "The trick is cheating better."
no subject
"Cheating better, huh?" He tilted his head a little, eyes on her blade, on her footwork, on her stance. "This is starting to feel like something I should have started planning elaborately in the wake of the last Homecoming carnival."

Jaina had worked very hard for a very long time to get ridiculous.
no subject
Because ridiculous. And from quite the Jedi pedigree. It seemed like a safe direction to venture in.

Kanan Jarrus, Jedi Padawan, Master of Understatement.

Even if the Order has some damn issues and couldn't function well without him.
no subject
Luke, Kanan. You'd met Luke.
"Did... did he have a Master?"

"I'm a Padawan without a Master," he said, finally. "You're a Master."
He swallowed a lump in his throat. Master Billaba wouldn't hold this against him. Maybe she'd be proud that he was even trying.
"I know you're probably not planning on spending any real amount of time here, but if you had any time at all before you left, I... uh. I would appreciate... anything. Please."

"I'm usually only in town for a few days at a time," she warned after a moment. "But you've gotta give me a starting point that's not anything."
no subject
"My training was... limited," he said, carefully. "My Master took me as her Padawan, and then we went to war. I'm a Padawan, but I'm barely even that, if I'm being entirely honest."
Okay, he was selling himself short. He'd gone to war and he'd survived beyond it, and most Jedi couldn't say the same.

She was just gonna take a guess that confidence was an area to work on.

Kanan grimaced for a moment, and then hedged, "Meditation was easy to get back into. Master Kenobi was here for a short while after I arrived on the island, he helped me pick it up again. And my Form III is... not flawless, but not as bad as I was afraid it would be, after years of disuse."
And that was about it? Yay?
