Syndulla Scrap, Saturday

Generally Hera left the place to its own devices on Saturday, but there were Things Happening today. By which she understood, Sabine was helping Kanan dye his hair back to a more normal color. She'd found a good-sized basin and dragged it out for them, along with a couple stools, and hooked up water to a hose.

Now all she had to do was sit and be amused. Which had actually started back at the apartment, with Kanan panicking about who was bringing the dye and ending up with about five different colors and types. It was kind of adorable.

But now she had pulled out a low chair - it probably had had legs at some point, but now it was a good lounge - and was sitting wondering if she should get popcorn to go with her Coke. Chopper was burbling in his own amusement next to her.

The scrapyard was - sort of - open!

"Oh, don't you start," Kanan muttered, turning a look toward Chopper as he sat and waited for Sabine. "You get a show like this once, Chop. It won't be happening again."

He hoped. Maybe the next time Caleb did something stupid, Kanan would just cut it all off, instead.

Maybe he should have gotten a couple more darker shades, just in case straight-up matching his hair color wasn't good enough? And, uh, probably something to throw over his shoulders to protect his shirt, come to think of it.

He could always just take his shirt off.

"That doesn't mean we're not enjoying it while we can," Hera replied, grinning. "If I ever dye my lekku, you're free to laugh at me right back."

She would not be dyeing her lekku.

"Is that even a thing people do?" Kanan gave Hera a weird look for that one, trying to picture it.

It wasn't working.

"I can't even picture it."

In fairness, Kanan was not the most visual-minded person out there.

"It's not a thing people do," Hera confirmed, still grinning.

"Oh space, thank you," Kanan breathed, shaking his head. "Now you've got me wondering how that would work, and considering the bleaching we had to do in order to put color into my hair, I doubt it would be a pleasant one."

Then again, there were tattoos. Twi'leks did do tattoos.

Not quite the same thing, granted.

"I don't want to think about how it would work," Hera agreed.

Tattoos were different, yes, but also not exactly pain-free, and hers had been enough.

"We could just dunk each lek into a vat of food dye and see what happens," Kanan teased, smiling over at her. "But I'm not sure where we'd find that much food dye anyway."

And besides, he really liked the green.

Hera was rather fond of it, too.

"Let's not," she decided. "We'll leave the interesting colors to the one who can grow them out."

"Lucky me, huh?"

Kanan was, at the very least, quite thankful that he could grow them out, yes.

"If for whatever reason this fails, I might have to just cut it out."

Go on, Hera. Picture him with short hair without immediately thinking of Caleb.

"That sounds...unfortunate." Yeah, she couldn't help but picture Caleb. "Let's just hope this works."

"Hair grows," Kanan replied, squinting slightly at her at that one. "Unfortunate?"

Come on! He wasn't that bad with short hair!

Hera shrugged. "I've kind of gotten used to it the way it is," she said. "Plus I think you'd look a lot younger with it cut off." More like Caleb.

It was true, and Kanan winced a little at the thought.

"There is that," he allowed. "But unfortunate? That one stings, Hera."

Sabine showed up with some things in her satchel, trying not to be too amused at the setup. This sss not even a little bit what she was used to, but it was also more interesting than what she was used to.

"Ready to look less eye-catching?"

Kanan glanced at the... assortment... of dyes that he'd picked up in something of a 'kriff we didn't discuss who would bring the dye' panic yesterday, and then reached a hand up to scratch the back of his neck, just a touch awkwardly.

"Very ready, apparently," he confirmed. "You, uh, have your pick, I guess?"

"You're definitely prepared," she said, looking over what he brought. "You know we'll probably only need one, right?"

"Yeaaaah," Kanan replied, attempting, and failing, to bite back a grimace. "Did I mention I have no idea how this works? Because I don't."

On the long list of things that had stood a chance of setting him apart from other humans, 'hair color' had been pretty low priority.

"That's why you have me," she said, picking one up. "You'll have to go a little darker, but I should be able to do it okay without having to bleach anything."

"I don't mind darker," Kanan replied, lifting his shoulders slightly. "Just so long as it isn't terribly eye-grabbing, I'm happy."

Well. As happy as a Jedi ever got about their hair color.

"I'm trying to be as non-traumatizing as I possibly can," she promised, picking one of the dyes up. "This should work. The undertones should netralize the green in what's already there."

"Wait, there's green?"

Color theory wasn't Kanan's strong point. And he hadn't let it fade enough to realize that blue faded to green in time.

"Yes. Yellow and green make up the blue. Nothing you have to worry about," Sabine told him, and eyed him. "Are you planning on wearing that?"

Hair dye was so confusing.

Kanan glanced down at himself, and then looked back up at Sabine a little hopelessly.

"Shouldn't I?"

Not if you liked that shirt, Kanan. This was why Rosa had ruined a tablecloth to save your stupid robes.

Sabine reached into her satchel and pulled out a pack of cheap white t-shirts for him. "You really shouldn't."

"You came prepared," Kanan noted, blinking at that pack of shirts. "... I'd ask just how hopeless you figured I was, but I suppose we both have the answer to that one now, don't we?"

When it came to hair care? Exceptionally.
