The Park, Friday Afternoon

Today was hot. The sort of hot that had Kanan fondly reminiscing of those days when there was still snow on the ground.

Also the sort of hot that had Stance making a beeline for the duck pond, ducks or no ducks, because he just wanted to paddle around in the cool water for a while. And that was fine, sure. Kanan was going to just stake out a spot in the shade and meditate today instead of throwing himself too hard into any especially taxing workouts. He could save those for the evening, when things would be cooling down a little again. Unless Tip wanted a workout this afternoon, in which case, he'd at least brought extra water along today.

Ugh, summer. Sometimes living on a planet with controlled weather was the one thing he missed the most about Coruscant.

[OOC: ... We bought an AC unit, finally, in preparation of this weekend. I haven't had a Canada Day in years that hasn't ended in heat exhaustion. Open!]

Today was hot, but tea was supposed to be hot too, so that was how Seivarden was going to drink it the Park, as usual. Issa thought it was hot too, but obviously she wasn't going to swim in the pond, so she found a spot in the shade under a bush, close enough to the water to watch Stance make a fool of himself.

Seivarden saw Kanan doing what she assumed was some kind of meditation, probably something to do with that order, and didn't disturb him. She still wasn't sure if she wanted to have long conversations with him every week.

It took Stance about a minute to realize that his friend was there, at which point he was bounding up and out of the water to greet her. He was just about to shake himself off when he was cut off by a stern, "Stance."

The dog looked over at his person, who was still sitting in the shade with his eyes closed.

"Over there."

And then the dog trotted away obediently, shaking himself off well away from Issa and Seivarden both before making his way back to greet his cat friend.

Issa had retreated into the bush when Stance was about to shake off the water right next to her. Now she emerged, reaching out a paw to poke his nose as usual.

Seivarden still wasn't sure how that worked, and wasn't going to ask. She just said "Good afternoon" in Kanan's direction, and "Don't let me disturb you."

"Afternoon," Kanan replied, bowing his head slightly in greeting, and then settling back into his meditation.

Stance answered that poke with the requisite sneeze, of course. Some things were important, and that was clearly one of them.

It had become a tradition, hadn't it? As had Issa hiding under a bush. She dived into it, and then waved a paw through the leaves.

Seivarden, meanwhile, poured herself a cup of tea in the shade. Yes, it was hot. She really needed to ask Sparkle about ordering some summer gloves. She'd need several pairs in weather like this, unless she wanted to wash them every day.

It was hot, but not so much to really bother Rey, so she was here today, taking a seat nearby. She hated interrupting meditation more than training, but he'd know she was there and that she had no problem waiting.

And Kanan wasn't about to rush if she was fine with sitting in silence for a few more minutes. He didn't drag it out, though, a little smile tugging at his lips before he spoke.

"Afternoon, Rey."

"Hi. Is this the weather that's finally too much for you?" she asked, a tiny bit amused.

"It might be," Kanan replied, cracking open one eye and turning a little smirk her way. "It's been a while since I've done much of anything on a muggy mudball. I figured I would at least take it easy until people started to show up."

At least he admitted it? Gorse had been more or less the same weather plus perpetual darkness, but most of his time planetside there had been spent getting drunk anyway.

Other than having her hair very firmly pulled up off her neck and wearing a total lack of sleeves, Tip didn't seem much affected by the heat at all. She'd lived in a car in while driving across the American south. In the summer. At least here you could get a breeze.

"What? Could it be? Am I the one who's actually able to handle the weather today?"

"I had a feeling I'd be getting some hell today," Kanan replied, huffing a little laugh as he opened his eyes and looked up at her. "Between you and Rey, I'm pretty sure I'm outnumbered here."

Look, he was rationing his ability to cope with the heat, here. He didn't intend to come to the park just to sit around today!

"It's okay if you need to make this a meditation day. I don't mind."

"You're too kind," Kanan laughed, shaking his head. "If you're serious about that, though, you know I'm going to take you up on it."

Because hell, he didn't meditate enough these days anyway.

Kaidan took a break in the afternoon to get some running in, since he'd missed his morning run. Two Nalgene bottles full of cubed ice were clipped to the belt on his cargo shorts, and it looked silly, but it was just too gross outside to not bring extra ice.

He took a path through the park, and spotted Kanan sitting in the shade. Slowing, Kaidan observed his friend with a frown. Boots, long pants that looked heavy, a shirt with some sort of armored layer on one side. That was not appropriate for this weather. Heading in that direction, he called with exasperated cheer, "Jarrus, why the hell are you wearing all that in this weather? Are you trying to sweat yourself into tremors?"

Kaidan should have seen the long coat Kanan had worn for a while back on Gorse. He would've had fits.

Kanan sighed and opened his eyes, looking over at him.

"It's what I wear?"

Hannibal had already had the 'expand your wardrobe' talk with him before. It clearly hadn't stuck.

"Well, you shouldn't wear it in this weather," Kaidan admonished, gesturing, "Look at you. You're practically wilting. Do they not have shorts or at least lighter-weight stuff where you're from? Do I need to introduce you to linen? Because I will, if you need it, even though I hate shopping. And - boots? Leather boots halfway up your leg? In this heat? You're feet are going to rot right off your legs. Take them off, at least, while you're sitting."

Kanan was giving Kaidan the weirdest look. Again. More. But at the very least, he was shifting his weight to work his boots off his feet, looking faintly bemused as he did so.

"Better?"

It was sunny and hot today, but neither of those really bothered Peter, so he was headed out to the park to see if Kanan was there.

He grinned at seeing him fully dressed and partly armored, with bare feet. "You started getting undressed and gave up?" he guessed. "Or do your feet not deserve protection today?"

"The feet are Kaidan's fault," Kanan sighed. "He's decided that wearing boots is going to spell out my untimely demise or something."

That wasn't the issue and Kanan knew it.

"...Why?"

It was possible that people who hadn't gotten hot since before boots went out of style were the wrong ones to weigh in on this.

"Because it's hot out," Kanan sighed. "The boots don't have great ventilation."

Hera showed up after her junkyard shift, bearing two large Cokes.

She grinned and nudged Kanan's toes, holding one out to him. "You're wilting. Here."

Kanan blinked up at Hera, giving her a little, wry smile.

"Everyone is convinced I'm going to melt out here today," he said easily, reaching up to take the offered drink and then patting the spot on the grass beside himself, if she wanted to sit. "I'm not that fragile, I swear."

Hera sat and smiled back. "Well, your hair is all sweaty." She tucked a piece behind his ear. "Doesn't that mean you're hot?" Silly humans.

"Sure," Kanan replied, smirking a little. Because his ego totally needed that line, yes. "But I'm not about to keel over or anything. I have it handled."
