Luke's, Sunday
As was prone to happening every so often, when Kanan stepped into Luke's today, he immediately had to duck in order to keep from being smacked in the face with a flying pancake.
The kitchen staff froze, staring at him, wide-eyed.
The busboy dove behind a table for cover.
Kanan squinted for a moment. And then he reached to peel the pancake off the door, inspecting it for a few seconds before flinging it back in the direction it had come from, smacking the cook upside the head with it.
"I deserved that," the cook confessed.
"Good. Get back to work. Now I want pancakes."
Welcome to Luke's!
Today's Specials:
Caramelized Peach and Oat Pancakes
Strawberry Spinach Salad with Candied Pecans, Feta and Balsamic Vinaigrette
Rose Lemonade
Peach Blackberry Trifle
Kanan suspected that the abundance of fruit in today's specials was an attempt at sucking up so that he didn't beat them all with pancakes.
It was working.

So a pancake brunch, perhaps? Seivarden looked around as she entered.
no subject
Huh.
"Morning, Seivarden," he greeted, giving her a nod. "Here for something to eat?"
Or lost? Sometimes it was hard to tell.
no subject
"Good morning," she replied. "Yes, I was hoping that the pancakes are reasonably normal today."
no subject
"For here, they're damn near boring," he replied. "Peaches and oats, if you're familiar with either. I can have them make up something less complicated, too. It is their job. But I've tried these ones myself. Pretty good, if you like fruit."
Which Kanan did. Which worked out nicely.
no subject
She paused for a moment, realising that this could get difficult. "If... you have tea."
Proper tea.
no subject
"We have tea," he replied. "I don't think Eliot would stand for an establishment that doesn't have tea."
It was kind of a diner fundamental, really.
"Any type in particular?"
no subject
If he did, why hadn't she known?
"A black tea of some kind, preferably a Darjeeling or an Assam if you have. No teabags."
no subject
He stepped back from the counter for a moment to go for a rummage, and then surfaced with a container of loose leaf Darjeeling and a pair of rubber gloves.
"You like it just black, right? No sugar or cream?"
He was just remembering the way she'd drank it when they had both been teens, now.
no subject
"Just black," she confirmed. "So, nerf?"
no subject
no subject
"Sounds expensive to import," she noted. "Eliot must be taking this place seriously."
Which she could appreciate.
"It's always nice to be able to get the kind of food you're used to from time to time."
She was actually thinking about how she had felt on remote stations, when she found they served some dish from Inais.

Usually.

He'd gotten better at making it since his Caleb days, too. There had been plenty of odd jobs that required a working knowledge of how to make tea over the years.
"Hopefully the pancakes will be a nice change of pace from that. They should be ready for you soon."
no subject
"Oh," she said. "I just remembered. I wanted to ask you something."
no subject
Was he a little concerned about what she was about to ask?
Absolutely. He wasn't an idiot.
no subject
It might be good to know.
no subject
"Yeah, I've heard talk of that. Nobody can hurt someone inside of Caritas. Why?"
no subject
Because of course Rosa had blamed her.
no subject
He knew exactly who and exactly why, but he was steering away from acknowledging any of it unless somebody else brought it up first. There had been squirrel bribes for a reason, after all.
no subject
A smirk. "Twice."
no subject
"Twice," he echoed. "Someone really wanted to rearrange your face, there."
He couldn't imagine why.
