Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Saturday Evening

There was, for a brief moment, a flash of light, on the street just outside Wellspring Arms.

Then it faded.

What remained was a man - not a tall man, but still an intimidating man - wearing battle gear, an infinity scarf, a metal arm, and a remarkably neutral facial expression for someone with a jaw as strong as his. "No, I didn't," he muttered to himself, for reasons that did not seem immediately obvious.

He held the metal arm up in front of the door. The door made a noise, a zooming, trembling sort of noise. Then it parted, allowing the man in.

And then Cable stopped, right on the treshold, and stared into the mess that was the disused shop.

"What the shit."

"Got both hands full here, babe, but I'm high-fiving you in spirit," Vanessa told him, because booze was breakable and important.

To short, grimdark, and handsome, she said, "But, you know, we've got a wedding to fund, so if the price is right..."

Cable made a noise that, if you were very generous, was almost like .01 seconds of a laugh. "I didn't know you were a dancer," he said. "My wife and I always had two left feet. We were better at standing on the sidelines."

He shut the door with a wave of his arm. He had a feeling he'd be outside for a while longer. "Nice to put a face to Wade's stories."

Which was precious of him and deeply confusing at the exact same time. Weird, that!

"Did I join the X-Men?" Wade asked, squinting suspiciously at the door. "Please tell me I didn't join the X-Men. I mean. Avengers, sure. I just want to pet Chris Evans' Chia Pet beard, but the one here doesn't have the decency to grow one."

"Awwww, alternate universe you told stories about me!" Vanessa said, touched, and, "Please tell me he didn't join the X-Men. The mansion would probably blow up again."

It built character!

Cable looked amused.

"He likes the X-Men," he said.

Possibly because it was true, possibly just to be a troll.

"So, the darkest timeline, huh?"

"We like the X-Men!" Vanessa protested. "Colossus is adorable!" Vanessa possibly had a different definition of adorable than most people.

She shifted her bags around for better weight distribution and said, "You seem to have us at a disadvantage here. You got a name?"

"I'm Cable," Cable greeted. (Who needed unwieldy Summersy names, anyway?) He ignored Wade's question and followed up with, "Not an X-Man, but I've known a few. Taking a break to set up shop here for a while."

"A good choice because recasting is inevitable," Wade replied, completely heedless of that dodge. "Cable, huh? Cable, Cable, Cable... seems oddly familiar. But your ankles are normal looking and you're pocket sized, so I'm just lost."

It was probably best they ignored that addition to the conversation.

"Cable..." Vanessa remembered where she knew that name from and gasped. "Well, you can't have this one, buddy, I got here first!"

That... actually got a slow blink.

Savor that slow blink. Cable didn't do it often.

"Excuse me?"

"Is this the guy the less cinematic me was hitched to?" They weren't married, but okay. "They had a kid. Fuck off, narrative."

"That's what Skywalker said," Vanessa confirmed. "I think." That had been a long time ago. "Something like that. Anyway, I have dibs." Just so long as they were clear on that.

"He's all yours," Cable said, after another slow blink. "I'm happily married."
