Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Wednesday

It had been a long few days, though Cable was not going to tell anyone what he did or what he had to kill to return Wellspring Arms to something of a manageable state. Nor did he tell anyone about what he found in the back, or what he was planning to do with it.

No, he simply strode outside on Wednesday morning, hung a cheerfully rustic 'Come in, we're open' sign on the door below the NOW HIRING sign, and patted the door.

Then he slipped right back inside.

Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center was open for business.

It was all the primitive-looking leathers, wasn't it?

Octavia didn't mind not being immediately greeted, or even acknowledged. Honestly, she preferred it that way.

She looked around in silence for a moment. Then, without preamble, she said, idly looking at something or other, "This shop always made more sense to me than any of the others on the island."

"Well, this island's pretty quiet for the most part."

By Octavia's standards. There'd been a lot more shooting where she was from.

Octavia shrugged. "I'm going by how there isn't a war going on between groups of people who live here permanently."

If she'd been familiar with the term 'your mileage may vary', she probably would've used it.

"It's more like long stretches of quiet followed by a brief threat from the outside." And she should've preferred that. And, yet.

"I don't care about those things."

Liar. Or at least, it wasn't that simple.

She was still looking around the store. Didn't seem that different from when Bellamy had worked here, but then, Octavia had probably only visited once or twice.

"Climate survived just fine where I'm from." Kind of! It fared better than people, at least. She finally looked towards the counter. "Do you have any knives? I know it's a gun store, but a weapon's a weapon."

"Yes," she replied, "but I think the people who say that have never heard of stabbing the people with guns in the back before they realize what's happening."

That was a good use of a matter-of-fact kind of tone, she felt.

Octavia shrugged again.

"Killing shouldn't be easy."

Octavia agreed. But he'd have to infer that from her face in the brief moment that some expression of recognition crossed it. Because she wasn't saying as much.

She seemed to shrug it off.

"So, knives?"

Octavia didn't shrug again. But her demeanor conveyed the same sentiment anyway.

"Guess I'll have to come back, then."

Octavia had no witty retort. But those weren't really her thing to begin with.

"Leida," she said. And left.
