spectre_alenko: Kaidan looking oh so very serious (Default)

Groovy Tunes basement, Saturday mid-morning.

Kaidan had sent a text that morning, reading: "Groovy Tunes conference rooms in the basement. The big one. Discussion point: Is it a good idea to start a group of people to train together for the purpose of active defense during an incursion? There used to be student reserves, this would be similar. I don't know all that many people. If you know someone who might want to be there, pass it on. Peter: pls leave your roommate at home."

He scrolled through his phone and clicked Iris, Jono, Kanan, Liam, Miguel, Mitsutada, Peter, Zack. He frowned at the list, sure he was forgetting at least one person.

He paced for a few minutes, then grabbed a chair, swung it around backwards, and plopped down on it where he could see the door.

[OOC: Open, OCD is up. If you'd be invited by one of the listed, or if you can think of a reason why you'd be nosy and follow them, go for it. Worst that would happen is Zack would nice you to death and ask you to leave.]

Oh, hell. Kanan was more than a little skirty about all of this when the word 'reserves' had wound up on his phone's display, but the other side of the whole message had been the logical bits. The bits about training together and preparing for future trouble, and those, he could see a use for.

A need for.

So he was here to throw in his two credits worth. And he was doing an admirable job of not looking twitchy about it, too.

"That does make sense," Kanan said, though he had an awkward sort of dubiousness about him. "There are probably better people for the job, though. I'm not exactly what anybody would call leader material."

This was patently untrue.

This wasn't just Jono's building, it was at least partly Jono's fault, so of course he was here to help Kaidan brainstorm. Even if what it came down to was something more like a phone tree and a Friday afternoon training club or something, he figured getting to know the sorts of people who would show up to this thing would be in everyone's best interests.

He'd wrapped up today, anyway. He did that when there were going to potentially be unfamiliar people around and he didn't want to be a distraction. He didn't love doing it, but he did plenty of things he didn't love doing, so...

//There were weekly meetings, generally,// Jono explained. //People would go over drills, scenarios, game plans. Because it was broken into martial, powers, and support, people would have an opportunity to discuss, say, how best to use certain powers in particular situations. To figure out who ought to pair off with who in case of emergency. Somebody with primarily offensive capabilities to be paired off with, say, a healer, for search and rescue situations...//

He scratched awkwardly at the wrappings at the back of his neck.

//It's been some time. Admittedly, at this point, I'd probably err more on pulling from actual battle strategies than whatever we managed to figure out in high school.//

Zack was totally here! And totally ready to play bouncer if need be! Mostly he was just doing that other bouncing thing, the one that involved a slight spring up and down on the balls of his feet, smiling as he looked around the room.

He'd been starved for this. Not that he'd push too hard if there wasn't an interest or something. The island had pulled people together in tough times before even without the reserves. They'd make it happen again if there was a need.

But he'd been stuck on the island without a direction for a year and a half, now, and this was the closest he'd come to having one without having to take odd jobs from a smaller other-reality version of the President's son. He was excited.

Miguel had been mostly a loner, Exiles aside, so he wasn't really sure how this whole thing would work, but it certainly seemed like a good idea. So, he was taking off a bit of time from Luke's and dropping by.

With an entire carafe of coffee, since the diner was pretty much drowning in it.

Peter had indeed left his roommate at home. Not that he would have brought her anyway; this really didn't seem like her kind of thing.

It was definitely his, though. If there were defending to do, he was going to do it.

Peter shrugged. "That depends. What did you have in mind?"

Jono had not left his roommate husband at home. Even if Hannibal had no plans for actually fighting if he didn't have to, he imagined it would be a good idea to know what the people who wanted to were planning on.

//I know it makes me uneasy too,// Jono said, latching on to one very particular part of all of that. //But it'd be a damn bloody shame to leave the island's students out of this. Not because I want to militarize them. I fight like hell back home so that my students there can have some semblance of normal lives instead of being trained up as soldiers, and I'll do the same thing here, too. But...//

His brow furrowed.

//But they're going to fight anyway,// he settled on. //Nothing we can say or do is going to stop that. If something is threatening them, they'll throw themselves in front of it. They always do. Too many of our students... they've never had the opportunity to be children. They don't know how not to get involved. We can hate it. We can place ourselves between them and the fight like bloody brick walls, but all we'll manage by doing that is that we'll have a fight against the threat and against the students on our hands, and we can't afford that, either. I'd rather be someone they can trust to have their backs instead of the person who tells them they can't protect their home and their friends when something is trying to take it all away from them.//
