Here it was! Summer's very first day in her new store that she owned and would be running all by herself...
...not terrifying at all! Well, she had Apu, and that was a lot, because that man was kind of amazing, and she had Amaya with her that day, too, so that the other woman could sort of show her the ropes before officially handing over the torch. And even then, the island was tiny and she could tell that Amaya might have had a few misgiving about Summer jumping right into this with barely any experience at all, so she was glad she already had her in phone for jello emergencies.
In between customers, Amaya was showing her all the books, the ordering system, the stock room, explaining some of the less conventional methods of fixing some of the stuff that broken down every once in a while (honestly, considering Amaya's trade, Summer was expecting something a little more complex than 'just hit it a little'). It was stuff she might have usually found boring, but this was important. She was even taking notes. She was actually putting effort into this.
And then, of course, there was the question she'd been dying to ask all day. "So, then, I'll really get to pick the Squishy flavors every day?"
To which Amaya just laughed, dropping a hand on Summer's shoulder and giving it a conciliatory pat. "You can try, kid. You can sure try."
