That Warehouse With The Lightsaber Burn On The Door, Friday
Kanan wasn't completely certain he was going to ever bother with the park again. The warehouse was more or less set up the way he needed it, he hadn't seen Seivarden in a month and so having the pets meet up to play wasn't exactly on the table, and there was that whole thing with Kaidan and trees these days on the off (off, off, off) chance the other man actually made his way out for sparring.
And so he'd sent a message to all the usual suspects to tell them where he could be found, and then he settled in to go over lightsaber forms. Nothing terribly, earth-shatteringly new. At the moment, he was running through them just as much to ground himself as he was for refresher, finding the solid, steady movements of his blade in his hand far more tangible, far more immediate than taking a seat on the floor and reaching out through the Force to observe life around the island.
He had a training remote on standby in case he needed a challenge at some point, but for now he was content to just go through the old, familiar motions for a while, maybe letting the tiniest bit of Caleb shine through as he went. Just for this.

"Hello, Rey."
He didn't stop, today. Not immediately. He brought his lightsaber up, brought it back down again. It hummed as it moved, cutting down invisible opponents, deflecting bolts that weren't there.
"Today's the day, huh?"
For somebody who was better at running than most anything else, it was odd, feeling the sting of it.

She had considerably more than what she'd arrived with, too. And it still wasn't a ton.

"It's going to be weird without you here on Fridays," he noted, falling into a crouch and bringing his lightsaber down in front of himself, standing and twisting and lashing it outwards, the blade stopping a mere inch away from one of the building supports. He pulled it back again, continued on. "Grab a practice sword, follow along for a while?"
no subject
She picked up a practice sword, which was a little weird when she was so used to her staff. "I can always call in on Fridays," she said, giving it a little swing to test it before watching for a good point to jump in.
no subject
"I would not object to calls on Fridays," he replied. "Touch base, tell you how stupid the island is being. Maybe impart some useful life advice on you. Or just confuse you more, whichever..."
Ascertain that she was still alive and well. That bit was important, but he was busy pretending he wasn't kicking into Dad Mode, here.

Rey copied his stance, though again, it felt much different this way. "I don't think you've ever confused me," she said, and paused. "Maybe on the Force stuff. But that just seems confusing in general."
no subject
"Honestly, Rey, sometimes I wonder if it ever stops being confusing. But if there's ever anything you have questions about, I'm always here to try to explain."
He wasn't promising that he'd be any good at it. But he'd definitely try.

"We'll have to see what stories the traders have to tell when they come through," she said. "I'm sure I'll have all sorts of questions."

And done she didn't think he'd gotten to yet, and she wasn't sure she should mention that.
no subject
"See, now I'm definitely curious," he replied, glancing her way, turning along with his lightsaber into another attack position.

She'd met Luke, and didn't know it. Which, really, was for the best for a lot of reasons. It's eventually be interesting when she found out, though.

Having met a few Skywalkers, and all.

It was hard to ignore 'big things' when evidence of the Empire was everywhere.

"I'll make a point of it," Kanan replied, nodding and moving into the next steps of his forms, picking up the pace a little. "Friday check-ins, right?"
no subject
"Right. You're going to be very bored hearing my end."
no subject
Nobody liked said, Kanan.
It was coarse.

Seriously. You didn't want to know how much sand was in her boots by the end of a day.
"I'm pretty sure anyone who says they like sand means they like the beach, or they're lying," Rey said.
no subject
Yeah, he was getting Space Dad all over this conversation now.
no subject
There probably wasn't anyone else she'd be checking in with much, after all.
no subject
"Well, then I guess we've got that sorted," he decided, and picked up the pace just that little bit more.

"I'm going to have to be, I suppose."
Things had been... much. But he was getting his head around it.

Since hi, look at her life.

"Hey," he replied, "I've got Stance to keep an eye on me. If ever I'm not doing fine, he'll just sit on me until I'm better."
Or until he starved to death because he didn't have the heart to move his dog.

This wasn't really a hardship.
no subject
It was maybe the fastest Rey would ever answer any question in her entire life.
no subject
"Okay," he replied, shooting her a grin. "Hey, you've got a few hours before you take off, right? I can head to the apartment and get him, if you like. You can take him for a farewell lap around the island."
