The Perk, Monday Afternoon

Booored. Bored bored bored.

Bored.

Vette was, possibly surprisingly, bored. Out of her skull. She'd gone to her class today, sat through the weird flat holo, been given some food for thought, considered wandering back to her room. Hadn't. And now she was bored. So she'd gone for a walk. Sure, the weather was... not good today. She had twin rivers of water running down her lekku by the time she'd ducked herself away into a nearby shop, and not five minutes later she was sitting down by the window with a hot drink in her hands, watching the rain come down. The weather was still better than Ryloth, she would even grudgingly admit that the town was leaps and bounds better than Nar Shaddaa, and she was slowly warming up to the rain all the same.

All that considered, she still sighed as she settled in to people-watch. The drink name was totally misleading. Pumpkin spice wasn't spicy at all.

[OOC: Open post, soggy Vette!]

Hera had an umbrella, at least, so she wasn't quite as damp, even if she was fighting with the thing a bit in the wind.

She closed it with an exasperated sigh, set it by the door, and turned to head to the counter. Then smiled, seeing Vette.

"Hi there! How's everything going?"

With all the wet outside, Lana was feeling...well, a bit like she was home. And desperately in need of something hot to drink.

So, here she was. Ducking in the door, nodding to Vette, and heading to get a coffee.

"Hey, Vette. What's disappointing about it?" Hera asked. "They'll probably make it again if you want."
futurespacemom: (slyly amused)

"Pumpkin is a local fruit, if I remember right, and the spices are what they usually cook it in," Hera explained. "I had to ask, too. Apparently there's a lot of it around this time of year."

Lana got her coffee and added a little milk, then came to sit at the table next to Vette's. "Were you as confused by that holo - or not-holo - as I was?"

Another sign that Summer had definitely been working way too much: this was literally going to be her first PSL of the season, and it was halfway into September! That was practically criminal, but a Monday like today seemed like a good time to fix this clearly heinous crime against humanity.

She thought she'd get the full effect of the whole 'independent business owner hitting the ground running' by bringing her laptop and planning to spend most of the day 'working' there in the coffee shop.

And getting distracted. All too easily A non-Hera Twi'lek in the Perk'll kind of do that to you on a Monday morning.

Trying to keep her grin down to a smile that didn't give away her excitement too much, she bobbed a nod to the girl and lifted her cup in a wave/salute of sorts. "G'Morning!"

"What did you think it was?" Hera asked.

...it was afternoon, wasn't it? Oh, well. When you can't read you owned your own business, you made your own hours, and morning could be whenever you damn well pleased.

"Nor is it technically caf!" Summer was maybe a little too excited to be able to point that out from a point of knowledge. "But I am quite familiar with the classic autumnal flavor bomb that is the PSL. I never thought of it before, that the spice part might be misleading, but they mean more spice-es like cinnamon and nutmeg than spic-y, like peppers and stuff."

She waved her hand to dismiss it, though. "Not that any of that matters, it's all just semantics. I'm Summer, by the way," and she offered out a hand, "what's your name?"
somethingwithturquoise: (i'm just trying it on for fun)

Summer didn't know if she'd got quite that far (she would...oh, yes, she definitely would), but any sort of authority on pumpkin spice seemed even less important now that the Twi'lek introduced herself, and Summer's eyebrows were taking a quick vacation up toward her hairline.

"You're Vette?" she said.

Had BDG mentioned that one of the WBBT was a Twi'lek? If he had, how could she have forgotten that tidbit? She must have just been too excited about the WBBT in general.

And then Summer smirked a smirk that she had been smirking an awful lot these last few days.

"And your roommate's Nina, and you two tried to steal the welcome shuttle bus, didn't you?"
somethingwithturquoise: (giggity)

[personal profile] somethingwithturquoise 2018-09-17 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
And here she didn't even mention knowing about them working at Kaidan's, either.

"Well," Summer snorted, "I am friends with the bus driver."

Guy.

With the bad goatee. Ohmygod, Vette, she wanted to just adopt you now. Could she adopt you? She was totally going to adopt you.

somethingwithturquoise: (smug summer is best summer)

[personal profile] somethingwithturquoise 2018-09-17 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"To his credit," Summer offered with a laugh of her own, "I asked for some good bus stories. And to you and Nina's credit, you guys gave him one. But it sounds like your methods could use a little bit of work; I mean, did you even try to put up a distraction? It sounded like you guys just rushed in there hoping he'd be gone for a while. And if no one's gotten around to teaching you yet, and you need to learn how to hotwire a car quick, hit me up. I broke into my grampa's spaceship so many times this summer he had to put death lasers around it, and I can practically do it with my eyes closed now.

"It's not that impressive," Summer felt the need to add quickly, "his ship's a piece of junk, but it's not much different than a bus, mechanically, really."
somethingwithturquoise: (just so happy right now)

[personal profile] somethingwithturquoise 2018-09-17 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Thinking back to her own time on the bus where she thought she was being sent off to brainwashing camp, Summer really could appreciate pulling something like that off in the midst of the confusion that only going to Fandom could create.

And not just because it annoyed the piss out of BDG, either.

She held up a hand. "I really only know to get into things I'm not supposed to and get them moving," she admitted, "so if you're looking for, like, a legit education, I don't know if I'll be much help, I never even got my driver's licence, but there's at least a few tricks up my sleeve."

At that point, Summer went ahead and pulled out a chair and invited herself to sit down for a little bit, because, clearly, the two of them were going to be friends, anyway, so might as well get to it.

"So," she stated, "now that you probably realize you aren't in the throes of some kid of crazypants hallucination, how're you liking the place?"
somethingwithturquoise: (so high right now)

[personal profile] somethingwithturquoise 2018-09-17 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Summer went to sip her own drink as Vette started in, and kept drinking as she went on...and on...and on...so she got quite a good mouthful of her own, too.

"But Vette," she said, after a thoughtful pause to make sure that she was actually done, "...why don't you tell us how you really feel?

"And if you think this weather sucks, just wait until we get to winter. Unless you like freezing your ass off, in which case, uh...just...be patient?"

At least the smirk at the end tried to be a little apologetic.
