Today the shop was full of butterflies. They looked pretty at first, but Breq quickly discovered that in that number they were quite a nuisance. For every step she took a few got squashed under her shoes, leaving stains on the floor. She had to wipe them away from her face. They clung to her clothes. The door frames got sticky with dead butterflies trapped between door and frame.

And they got stuck in the stereo, and somehow short circuited it. Breq tried to make tea, but it ended up being full of butterflies.
