If Mike seemed a little more frazzled tonight than he usually did, well, you didn't need to look any further than the tall hunk of a guy standing at the bar. Mike was pretty tall too, of course, but Richie was taller. And Mike was muscular, but Richie was even more so.

And neither of those things were the reason Mike was a little off-balance. Nah, that was from the simple fact that Richie was here at all. He'd shown up at the house a little before Mike's shift was due to start, so, here they both were. And before Mike had even had half a chance to ask what the fuck was up with Richie showing up announced after they hadn't even talked to each other in... okay, Mike didn't even want to think about how many years.

And here indeed was Richie, taking in the place, looking around.

"Some things don't really change, huh?"

"Huh, what?" asked Mike, intelligently. He had a reason, though - he'd just been sending a text to Brooke. He was yet to decide whether it was a good idea or not, but it was done now. "Sorry, I was just... Anyway, this?"

He gestured with his phone at the bar around them.

"This is just a once a week thing. Kind of a habit, really. Started working here when I moved and I can't seem to give it up even though, uh, the furniture business is really going great."

Richie considered that, his head tilting slightly to the side. Then he nodded, because, hey, sounded good to him. "Good for you, brother," he said.

Although then he also gave the phone a significant nod. "Did I interrupt something?"

"Oh, just texted Brooke." A beat. Oh, right, it had been years and years. "Uh, my girlfriend."

"Oh, sweet," Richie said, his eyebrows climbing up like he was somehow impressed. Because he was 100% thinking of the wrong Brooke. "She coming here?"

"Dunno, man," Mike said, shrugging. "Told her where we were, so, we'll see."

Brooke had gotten the text, so she came on down like a good girlfriend who was deeply curious about Mike's friend.

"Hello, can I get a Stripper's Kiss?"

She might actually work through all those specials.

Before Mike could get a word in, Richie was already ready to turn on the charm. And/or the high-wattage smile.

"Well, I think that might depend on how nicely you'll ask."

"I dunno, it'd have to go through that guy first," Brooke said, nodding towards Mike.

Don't think it hadn't put ideas in her head immediately, look what you did, Mike.

Mike was already regretting like all of this, thanks! He put leaned against the bar and kind of half-sighed, and said, "Maybe don't lead with hitting on my girlfriend, Rich."

Which prompted Richie to look confused, as he looked from Mike to Brooke to Mike again. "I thought you said you were still dating Brooke, man."

... Which in turn prompted Mike to also look confused. "What?" For just a second, before he was rolling his eyes, exasperated. "Jesus, dude, there are more women called Brooke than just the one."

"Hi," she said, smiling as she held her hand out to Richie. "I'm Brooke."

Mike gestured at her like 'see?' Just in case Richie needed the confirmation, somehow.

But Richie was apparently over it enough to take Brooke's hand. "Hi, I'm Richie," he said, and even bowed a little. "Nice to meet you, and sorry 'bout the confusion. It's just that the last girlfriend of his I met was called Brooke, too. Thought maybe that had somehow lasted this long."

Yeeeah no.

"Nope, now he's go to put up with all this fabulousness," she said, not bothered at all. "I didn't know Mike was going to have a friend around."

"Yeah, neither did I until like half an hour ago," Mike said, with a barely repressed sigh. "Speaking of," he added to Richie, as he went to start getting stuff ready for that Stripper's Kiss she'd ordered, "I still don't get how you're here, man."

"Got an invite!" Richie said, like it was the simplest thing in the world. "Said I was the guest of one Michael Lane of Fandom Island, Maryland, so I thought hey, what the hell, right? Gonna come and see my boy Mikey after a while."

"I mean, I'm not complaining," Brooke said helpfully.

Mike wasn't so sure. But he was trying to get into the groove of things. Even if right now that just meant focusing on mixing the drink.

"Thank you," Richie told Brooke, because he wasn't going to call attention to Mike being a little on the fence about things, but that didn't mean he hadn't noticed. "So, what's your story? Where'd you meet Mike? Can't believe he's been hiding you away from us."

By not keeping in contact with them over the past six years or so.

"I used to go to school here, came back for this big homecoming event, and here was this hot bartender when I came in," she said, smiling. "So when I was looking for a change of scenery, I'd be crazy not to come back here."

She'd be nice and leave out the weekend-long hookup part.

After leaving the picnic yesterday, Tolvan had been pondering the possibility of bad ideas, at least until she'd discovered her accommodations, and gone back to pondering murder.

This was not helped by the drink specials here.

This weekend was a mistake.

You meant Aphra was a mistake, Tolvan.

A mistake that had just found you. "Buy you a drink, sir?"
