The park- Thursday morning

The weather was still nice enough, so she decided to steal the dogs for a while and take them on a nice, overly long walk.

Because she was trying to make gravity work on this kid.

By the time she got back around to the park, Rook had flopped and decided she was done, and Kitty was sighing at her. "This isn't being helpful. Lucky, no, not you too."

Éponine was crossing the park with a bag of mail slung over her shoulder, and took a detour over when she spotted Kitty.

"Good lord, still?"

"I'm not even at my stupid due date," Kitty complained. "The human body is dumb."

"It is at that," agreed Éponine. She reached a hand out in invitation to the dogs. "I s'pose it hasn't done much good trying to talk her into making her appearance?"

Lucky would get up and come over to say hi. Rook was done.

"Unfortunately she doesn't understand reason yet. Or threats. Or bribery. I've tried them all, so now we're walking," she said.

Éponine went to scratch Lucky behind the ears and laughed. "Hoping to shake her loose, maybe? Or get her to think walking's fun, and she ought to try it too?"

"I'm hoping gravity will take effect and she'll drop out," Kitty said, and shrugged. "It's what the websites recommend."

"You're serious?" Éponine blinked a few times, then laughed. "Good lord, and I thought in my head, wouldn't it be funny if all this walking just made her fall out? Only I meant it as a joke, you see, and here you are meaning it for real."

[throughaphase]

"I don't think it's true, but I need to see my feet again, Eponine," Kitty whined. "She can drop out, I'll be on the news, it'll be fine."

[filleauloup]

"I'd help hurry her along if I could, you know," Éponine said, a little bit surprised at how frustrated she was on someone else's behalf. "Only I'm no use for that sort of thing, and I'm not sure it would do any good to bribe her with toys and such."

Éponine, no.

"D'you think it's worth a try?"

Probably anything was, at this point.

"I tried promising her a pony, and I think college at one point," Kitty sighed. "Joke's on her, she's definitely going to college anyway."

[filleauloup]

"Damn. Well, that was the only idea I had." Éponine frowned. "Did you suggest ice cream, maybe? Or cake?"

Éponine. No.

[throughaphase]

"I think that's a little off for her." Like college was sooner? "I appreciate it, though. I'm sure she'll show up when she's good and ready and it's really inconvenient."

[filleauloup]

"It was what kids do, isn't it?" Éponine grinned. "You will let me take her for ice cream sometime though, won't you?"

Not necessarily sometime soon.

[throughaphase]

"Of course," Kitty assured her. "Might have to wait till we're done with bottles, but I will happily throw her at you for that."

Free time!

"I'd like that," Éponine said, all but outright beaming. "And you'll like having some time to yourself, I imagine."

[throughaphase]

"I'm already lining up sitters when I can," Kitty admitted. "It's like I'm trying to save our sanity early?"

[filleauloup]

"And we much prefer you to keep that," agreed Éponine. "Though you won't have any trouble lining up plenty of them, that you won't, I know it."

[throughaphase]

"What I'm learning is that either we have a lot of friends, or people have really been wanting to spoil babies and haven't had the opportunity," Kitty said, as Lucky laid down on her feet, a sign. "Maybe both?"

"Both," Éponine said, and scratched Lucky around the ears. "Speaking for me, that is, but I'd be willing to bet that goes for plenty of others too."

[throughaphase]

"They are pretty squishy and cute," Kitty grinned. "When they're not crying."

She had realistic expectations.

As did Éponine, who had two younger siblings (that she knew of, anyway).

"Well, of course. So it's only that I'll need to find a way to make sure she doesn't cry, isn't it?"

Not quite that simple, Éponine, no.

"God, I hope it's that easy," Kitty said. She already missed sleep.

"Probably not," because Éponine was not as cynical as she used to be but she wasn't naïve either, "but I'm sure all of us can come up with ways. There's too many clever people about here not to."

[throughaphase]

"If she ever gets colic we're going to have to work out an assembly line of people we can hand her down to until she stops," Kitty mused.

"There's a thought!" exclaimed Éponine. "All the folks here with special powers, the kinds of things they've been through, there's bound to be a few who can help specially with certain things. You could work out a list beforehand."
