Fandom Post Office, November 27 (Tuesday)

Éponine had not, it should be noted, intended to bring her cat to work with her today.

But Alouette had, perhaps out of an intense distaste for the idea of being home alone all day with no one to pay attention to her, followed her right out the door and all the way to the post office, and by that point, well, what was Éponine to do but let the cat stay the rest of the day?

It had seemed like a simple enough solution until Éponine sat down to take care of some paperwork and Alouette climbed up and went to sleep in her lap, and now she was looking down at the sleeping cat (which she was petting) and frowning.

"What'm I to do with you now, hmm? I've work to do, you see, but I can't hardly disturb you either, can I? That's the rule. You're asleep on me, so that's the rule. There's no disturbing the cat. It's clever of you, it is, taking advantage of that."

Alouette slept on, admitting no guilt or innocence either in the matter of how effectively she'd played the rules of this game to her advantage.

Just because she could, Kitty sent over a picture of Lexi, awake and resting up against a very patient Lucky, because of course Kitty was the type to take pictures like that.

The squeal of delight Éponine let out when the picture came through startled Alouette into jumping off her lap for a minute, so thanks for the assistance in actually getting some work done, Kitty.

isn't this the cutest thing! have you gotten any sleep lately?

A moment later:

the dogs are taking it well it seems.

The dogs are great with her. I have not slept for more than two hours for two weeks.

Lexi was lucky she was cute and would probably grow up to be president someday.

just think how it could be worse. you might have had twins!

And then she repeated that exact text another six times.

Éponine started to snicker by the time the third "no" came through, and by the eleventh she had one hand half jammed in her mouth to stifle the hysterical laughter while Alouette gave her a witheringly judgmental look from the counter.

it's only because I care that I point this out you know, she replied. anyway you don't so it's all right, isn't it?

Kitty was sticking with that.

she's lovely, she really is, and i do mean that.

Unfortunately Éponine was not the best source of sympathy here. Sorry, Kitty, but she was trying?

And luckily she's too little to fight back when I'm going to end up in so many holiday outfits. You're gonna have a whole December of pics.

i can tell. Because of the repeating herself. anyway you'd have to send me the pictures so it's a group job anyhow, see?

She was so tired.

how are you doing other than sleepy? is there anything you need? i could stop by after work and bring you something.

She was thinking about starting up the island's version of GrubHub, so this was partly a test of that. Only partly, though.

Then, This is not legally binding, I do not have a million dollars.

that i can do! lexi's probably too little for the meals with the toys yet but i'll let you know when i'm leaving and you can tell me what to pick up, all right?

She wouldn't have asked for the million dollars anyway. Yay growth!
