Turtle & Canary; Friday [11/30].
Summer knew it was coming; of course she did, how could she not? But she thought she might at least have one more day before she would walk into her store and hear the Christmas music playing. But there it was, and there she knew it would stay, and that was fine, she didn't really mind Christmas music, Christmas was still a little weird for her after the exploding Santa incident, sure, but she did like it and she was looking forward to the holiday spirit and all it entailed...
...but did it have to be so loud? Like, seriously, she could barely hear herself think over all those blaring trumpet fanfares and choral interludes. And when she asked Apu about it, he just shrugged and said he tried to turn it down, but it wouldn't. The sound system was literally turned all the way to zero, and yet the music was still aggressively present in all their ear holes.
So she shot a text to Amaya to at least come check it out, but she had a feeling this was going to go the way of the Squishy machine and its insistence on red, but, hey, at least it was worth a try.

... Since he'd only really done so the one time, at her behest, and all?
So today, after his time at the warehouse, he was making his way down, Stance in tow, to see if he could score some dog treats and maybe whatever the Jello of the day was.
Of course, two steps into the door, he was already making a face. Stance whined, hunkered down close to the floor, and attempted to cover his ears with his paws.
"That time already, huh?"

Still, she wasted no time in tossing a pair of earplugs Kanan's way (the fact that they were pink was coincidental, promise, she just grabbed whichever ones were on top of the stack in front of her on the counter), and said, loudly, to be heard over the music, "I had Amaya come look at it, but no luck! I think I'm stuck with it, at least for today! So if you need anything, you might wanna just grab it and go, because it's a little hard to just talk over 'The Carol of the Bells in BLAST YOUR EARDRUMS D MINOR!'"

Kanan took the earplugs gratefully, not so much as blinking at the color. Functional? Good. Yes, please, and in they went. And that was a relieved sigh.
"I just--" He paused, considered how his voice sounded half-muffled even to him, and then raised his voice accordingly. "--I JUST WANTED TO SWING BY AND SAY HELLO. STANCE MISSED YOU."
Stance, who might never set paw through that door again, if he had any say in the matter.

and her mun'sexperience, not even plugging up your ears seemed to help. They did muffle it, yes, but the fact that one could still here strains of it, just faded...Yeesh.
"AWWWW!" said Summer, shouting back, not even sure how well he'd be able to hear her now. "I MISS HIM, TOO!"
And now she was reminding herself that it wasn't even too cold out today, so between following Stance's lead and sticking around for more of this, the better choice was pretty obvious.
"LEMME GRAB MY COAT, WE CAN JUST TALK OUTSIDE!"
Where the music, through the walls, would be hitting juuuuust about the level you'd want it to be for your shopping experience.
no subject
Yes, please. To the beautiful outside, where one could hear oneself think. Mostly.

She let her frustration and relief melt off of her for a nice long second before switching straight into dog-adoration mode, grinning as she ducked down to the poor little guy and giving him all the ear-scritches to make up for it. "Hey, there, Stance!" she gushed, still talking too loud out of habit now more than anything else. "I'm sorry you had to deal with that, all that loud awful Christmas music, but it's okay now, right, buddy?"
And now she was smushing his face.
His face needed to be smushed.
"I missed you, too!"
And now that the important stuff was taken care of, she looked up over her shoulder at Kanan and added, "So, what's up, BDG?"
no subject
"Not a whole hell of a lot," he replied. "We were in the market for d-o-g t-r-e-a-t-s," because Stance knew the 'treat' word all too well now, "and maybe the jello of the day, but if anybody opens the door and lets that noise out one more time, I don't think I'll ever be able to convince Stance to come back into this neighborhood again."
Stance, who was in a much better mood, thank you, tail wagging away behind him.

"I'm sure that's something...." Summer started, realized she was still sort of semi-shouting and stopped herself, dropping her voice down to a more normal level after shaking the the lingering piercing notes of 'Away in a Manger' from her head. "...that's something a few well timed d-o-g t-r-e-a-t-s could fix pretty easily enough. And, hey, if anything, I can just text the order to Apu, have him leave out the back door and bring it up front for us so that we can avoid having that door opened at all, so long as no one else goes waltzing in while we're out here."
no subject
Who wouldn't, really?

"Hmm, I suppose I'll have to cope," Kanan replied, grinning crookedly. "Now that I'm actually almost familiar enough with Earth food to begin to figure out what even constitutes 'weird shit,' around here."
He'd try anything once, though.
no subject
She knew.
"I"m fairly confident that this is the least offensive jello I've made so far, actually," Summer admitted, thoughtfully, after a moment, and not ceasing for a moment on her adoration of the dog, "but, yeah, I guess you're right, that would kind of depend on who you asked. But it's good, and has a nice sweetness to it, so I'm sure you'll like it."
Not that she had any doubts. Not unless it involved coffee, and even that, she knew he'd probably, though reluctantly, tolerate.
no subject
"Well, then I might have to give it a try," Kanan replied, smirking faintly. "I haven't entertained my sweet tooth in whole days, I need to keep on top of that."
His poor pancreas.

And she wondered if maybe she should start preparing a channel for smuggling insulin into space with her.

Kanan chuckled and gave his shoulders a shrug.
"I'm working my way down the list of vices," he replied. "Knocking them down a notch every so often. Maybe next I'll replace sweets with those minty toothpicks, what do you think of that?"
no subject
There was an awful lot said with that one single sound. The look on Summer's face as she looked back up at him only worked to firmly cement that thought in.
"I mean," she offered helpfully, "sure, I can picture it. I can definitely picture it, but that doesn't mean the picture's a good one. Plus, I'd be worried about all those minty toothpicks getting wedged into and stuck into the massive cavities you'll probably have by the time you're finished with your Sweets Phase."
no subject
Kanan broke into a bark of a laugh at that, and then shook his head.
"Well, have you got any better suggestions? I'm absolutely open to thoughts on the matter."
no subject
no subject
Kanan broke into a chuckle at that.
"I suppose at the end of the day, jello and juice are better than some things I could be doing with my life."
... He didn't figure he'd need to clarify that one. Summer had been the one to save his ass from the tremens, after all.
"Okay, you've won me over. A jello for me, and some dog treats for St- dammit."
Someone forgot to spell out the thing. Someone's dog was now perking up and bouncing around and barking excitedly.

"Got any fresh fruit from my neck of the woods in there? I'll take some of that too," Kanan decided. "Meilooruns for Hera, of course, but if you've found a supplier for jogan fruit, that'd pretty much make my day."
Meiloorun came with some emotional baggage, for Kanan. Which would never stop him from eating it, granted.

"Aaaaand sent. He should probably be out with it in five minutes or so, barring any unexpected delays."
It was Fandom. It should really go without saying.
no subject
A pause.
"That might be a slight exaggeration. But only a slight one."

"Considering the mainland is currently Earth, it does give you a distinct advantage for those of us who have no damn clue what to do with thing like drinking age limits and photo ID," Kanan supplied. "Or road signs. Driving licences. Basic Earth fashion. Money..."
It wasn't a short list.

"Tell me about it," he replied. "You've seen some of the scum of my galaxy already, too. This place is... unreal. It's kriffing jarring when you meet somebody here who is just genuinely horrible."
