Summer had a lot of work today, sure. It was the holidays, it was a new season, there were orders and projections and budgeting to do. But today, she was mostly just distracted by the cluster of stringed lights that had gathered near the door, just waiting for the next customer to come in, with the sole intention of just...following them around the store, the way some of them had followed her into the store earlier. She was mostly weirdly fascinated by them because she was trying to figure out exactly what the point of it was. They didn't exactly do anything except follow them around, sometimes trying to be a little sneaky about it, but they weren't attacking, they weren't getting in anyone's way, they weren't even judging, silently or otherwise, anyone's purchasing decisions. So she didn't really see much of an issue with them in the store, as long as they stayed benignly weird. If anything, maybe them stalking everyone would be an added security measure, make people think twice about lifting anything off the shelves, not that it was ever much of an issue around here.

But the best parts about watching them were the moments when the doors opened and a customer did come in, and all the individual strings got so excited and competitive to be the one to stalk the person that they wound up mostly just tangling themselves up in each other, and it took about a good half hour, if not more, for them to get detangled again. Some of them, she was sure, would probably never get untangled again.
