Furnado Animal Shelter, Wednesday
The plan, after Rufus had given him the ticket, was to leave immediately. But as the day had continued on yesterday, Zack realized it wasn't quite so simple. He needed to tie up loose ends, needed to pick up his sword from Amaya whenever it was finished and needed to make sure the shelter was in good hands - damn Tseng for arranging for him to inherit a business that made him responsible for so many lives. He'd known exactly what he was doing.
And then the storm had hit, and Zack found himself making a damn beeline for the Furnado, to check the supplies, make sure the generators were running, fill up water bottles, and - crap! - rescue the chickens from the roof, a task that was easier said than done.
Okay. So he had a ticket to get home. Apparently right now, the rest was a bit of a work in progress.
At least the cold didn't bother him. Thanks for that much, ShinRa.

Seivarden stepped through the door, brushing snow off her coat

Zack blinked up at Seivarden as he came down the stairs from the roof, his arms full of one struggling, rather displeased, somewhat chilly rooster.
"... Little cold for you, Seivarden?"
By all rights, Zack should have been freezing, doing laps as he was into the storm with his bare arms and all. But cold was one of a good many things that didn't trouble him the way it used to when he was still genetically human. He didn't bother with winter coats, so much. What was the point?

"You don't think so?"
She wasn't complaining about those bare arms, though.

Zack smiled a little crookedly and shrugged.
"I don't feel it," he explained. "Not like most people do. It's a long story. But you're welcome to stay in here and warm up for a bit before heading out again. I can put on some hot water for tea? I think I still have some of one of Iris' blends around here somewhere."
no subject
"Thank you, I'd love a cup of tea. Iris' blends are lovely. I haven't seen her in a while by the way. How is she?"
no subject
Well, there was an effective way of stabbing Zack right in the heart.
"She's off on a business trip right now," he replied. It was... true enough. He made his way over to go put on the kettle and pull out two mugs, setting the rooster down on the floor. Eh, he was fine there. "I'm going to head off in the next few days to meet up with her."
To find her, since she'd gone missing. Still close enough.

"Is everything ok?" she asked.

Zack was quiet for a full half minute before finally replying.
"She's been missing for months without any word. I'm going to go looking for her."

"Yeah," Zack replied, and blew out a little breath. "I hope so, too. I have a few ideas of places she might have gone to, but I'll probably have to call up some old friends to be sure."
... 'Friends' was a kind of tumultuous word in this case, but it was as close as anything.
no subject
"I'm guessing you don't, but let me know if you need help."
There were very few people here that she would offer that.

Zack turned a grateful smile toward her, and then made his way over, holding out a mug of tea her way.
"I appreciate that," he replied, honestly. "And I'll keep that in mind, thank you."
He wasn't sure what he was going to find there. But he was wanted, preferably dead, back home. Things were going to be rough.

"I need to buy more food for Issa." She smiled a little. "She doesn't like the weather either."
no subject
"I don't think this is the kind of weather that many things actually enjoy," Zack mused, lifting his own mug. "We've got plenty of cat food, though. Feel free to get as much as you like. I..." He watched the rooster flap up to perch on the counter. "... I have some work to finish up here, but I can deliver it for you if you end up getting a lot and don't want to battle the storm with an armful of cat supplies."

She had stayed on planets where it frequently got worse. She hated those planets.

Zack lifted a shoulder in a shrug.
"It's been a long time since I've really been around here long enough to pay attention to the winter weather," he replied, "and I didn't really notice the cold then, either. But better safe than sorry, right?"

"Good call," Zack agreed. "And the food should keep for a while, anyway, so if you do end up getting too much, you won't have to worry about it going bad or anything."

She added, jokingly: "And if anything invades I have my own gun now."

"So," she said. "I've cursed us all now?"

Oh, tomorrow was gonna be good.
