The Perk, Wednesday Morning

If Dante was completely honest with himself, there wasn't a whole lot about Fandom he missed. It'd been a nice place, it'd been home when he needed home, but he wasn't a guy to get nostalgic for it much.

One thing he did miss? Coffee.

Or, well, actually, the strawberry and cream drink that you could call coffee strictly by the parameters of 'it gets served in a coffee place'. Dante's universe didn't have a whole lot of quirks compared to the rest of the multiverse, but you know what it didn't have? Starbucks.

Dante blamed Mundus, personally.

He flirted with the barista, grin huge on his face, and returned to his seat with a drink that had so much extra cream and strawberry on it that it kind of seemed to push its way out of the cup. Heaven, dammit.

At least the holiday seemed to over. Seivarden had ignored it and just spent a few days watching Radchaai entertainments, which was what she usually did half of the time anyway.

She knew trying to order tea at the Perk was likely to get her in a bad mood, but she was bored enough for that to be better than being, well, bored.

The barista smiled and placed a cup of tea in front of her on the counter. It had been properly prepared, Seivarden had been watching. She frowned suspiciously.

"You're taking tea seriously now?"

"I'm practising my New Year's resolution a little early," The barista replied cheerfully.

"New Year's resolution?" Seivarden asked, confused.

"You know, being perfectly nice and polite to all customers."

"So it's not about the tea, then?"

The barista just smiled back, and Seivarden sighed and picked up the cup, turning around to look for somewhere to sit.

"It's a small place," Seivarden pointed out, not sure if she had met this person before. "Seivarden Vendaai. And you are?"

She didn't sound as if she was particularly interested to know, which was sort of true, but on the other hand, it seemed like if she was to talk to anyone here it was this kid or the barista.

That was a subject which Seivarden had opinions on.

"First there was all the annoying stuff," she said dryly. "Then there was the cold. At least the snowmen offered an opportunity for target practice. If I could move out, I would."

She took a sip of her tea.
