Turtle & Canary; Friday [12/28].
So, this last week had been...interesting. Taking care of Girl meant that Summer not only had a convenient excuse for not fighting snowmonsters attacking the island, but it also meant she had an excuse for not going home for Christmas, which was always kind of a drag because her dad was just so damn extra about it all. But after the whole Snuffles/Snowball incident, the Smith household was strictly a 'no dogs allowed' home, and she was just bound by duty now, sorry not sorry. She couldn't agree to take care of a dog and then abandon her.
Of course, there was the other part of the duty that she'd taken up, and that was keeping tabs on the shelter while Zack was gone, too. Which seemed fine, because he had employees, but, oh, hey, guess what? Those employees were also gone all last week for some winter break trip, so literally everyone who worked at that place except the vet was gone last week. So that was cool. But the week was up and she didn't know if the Friday kid (who was literally a year younger than you, Summer, but okay) would be in or not or claim some sort of portal lag, but she had her own business to worry about today, because it was already Friday, and new kids were already starting next week (what? How?) and thank god for Apu, who could do all this stuff in his sleep, but she really wanted to make sure they were ready for whatever unexpected necessities might be needed for anyone just coming in and dealing with Fandom's whole...Fandomness.
She knew you couldn't really prepare for everything, but you could definitely try to prepare for most things.

And what better place to get them than Turtle & Canary?
Which meant Nina had to scoot over on her lunch break to buy things, though she did pause when she saw Summer. Crap. She was pretty sure that, like, Summer liked Grumpy Bus Guy.
On the other hand, Summer was pretty fun, from what the squirrels had told her and from what little Nina knew of her…
So she sidled on over and said in a faux-whisper, "Like, which aisle are your sequined things in??????"
no subject
"I think," she offered, dropping her voice down in a similarly toned whisper, "that depends on what kind of sequined things you're looking for."
And now she had to wonder what these sequined things would be used for, and, ohgod, please let it have something to do with Grumpy Bus Guy.
no subject
"Well," she said, still in that whisper, "like covers and stuff, I suppose????? For, like… public seating???????"
no subject
"Then you'll want aisle
handwavey, with most of the household decor, I think," she offered, and, considering the whisper, she added, in a conspiratorial tone, "Want me to pull a 647 on this?"no subject
"I, like, don't know what that means," Nina admitted, "but I'm pretty sure the answer is yes anyway???????"
To be fair, Nina would want to say yes anyway, just because now she was intrigued.

Which, of course, prompted a flurry of any of the squirrels hanging out nearby to go rushing toward the scene of the 'accident.'
Summer did a quick pass for any stragglers (usually just Leroy, really), before grinning at Nina. "That's a 647. Works like a charm, and now you can shop in relative secrecy for, oh, a good fifteen minutes or so."
And, really, all the subterfuge was probably not necessary. She could just shove a bottle at them and they'd be good to go, but this was just way more fun and interesting. She was kind of stupid proud of the whole thing, too, and just liked to have an excuse to set it off.
And NFB from here!
"Amazing!!!!!!!!!! You have it all set up to just do that, psh, whenever!!!!!!!!! Is it something that, like, only you can trigger?????? Oh!!!!!!!! Though I suppose I shouldn't waste my fifteen minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Re: And NFB from here!
So she'd make this quick. "Apu and I are the only one trained in a 647 at the moment," she warned her, "but you just give him the number, and he'll know the drill, if I'm not around."
And she considered the thought that she had earlier
before the shuttle went up, too, omg, i swear!, and added, "Also, if this is totally for the bus tomorrow, I am so giving you a discount, too."Sorry, BDG. Remember, this was how Summer showed her love, because love in Summer's world was weird.
Re: And NFB from here!
It was going to be absolutely perfect.
"But I'm definitely going to remember the code!!!!!!!!"
Re: And NFB from here!
Re: And NFB from here!
She looked hopefully at Summer.
"Do you, like, have those too????????"
Re: And NFB from here!
Re: And NFB from here!
The list was pretty much what she'd already said: streamers, balloons, glitter (bucketfuls), bedazzler, steering wheel cover, sequined seat covers, a toy school bus, and a few bows.
"We, like, hope he likes it," she said, then giggled. Because, no, they really didn't care.
Re: And NFB from here!
handwavey; all the streamers and balloons and glitter and bows are over there, so you can pick out what you like, while I round up the rest, since they're pretty spread throughout the store. Plus, I know him preeeetty well; you can bet I'll pick out something he'll reaaaalllly like."And what an incredible opportunity to really finally move some of the god-awful ugly merch that'd been collecting dust on her shelves because no one in their right minds would ever buy it.
Re: And NFB from here!
This was going to go great! Great!

...
He was stepping into the store. "Do I really want to know what a tamales-flavored squishy is like? Not to mention, why?"
no subject
She'd accepted that fact within her first month of owning this place.
"We do have sample cups, though," she added brightly, "if you'd like to see for yourself."

Miguel thought about it. Probably longer than was healthy.
"Pass."
