So Astrid had survived the first week back; as she settled into her new day at Turtle & Canary, she wondered if that was sort of how this new shift would feel, like the end of something, the tail end of her slog through another week. It wasn't really that bad, though most of her classes, so desperate to resemble something like a normal high school curriculum, only reminded her of her desire to stay home in California. The week hadn't done anything to sway her ambivalence about being here, and she sighed as she settled in behind the register.

At least Summer had given her a stack of new signs to make and she had her sketchbook with her to help fill the time, too, and she wanted to get a letter to her mother written, to drop off at the post office before heading back to her room, where she still hadn't found any inspiration for the wall, despite being a little sick of looking at the same thing.
