Kanan's Warehouse, Sunday Evening

Well... Kanan had made plans to meet Master Solo in his warehouse after work, and while he wasn't terribly certain he was going to get much lightsaber practice in, given that either piece of his lightsaber's hilt alone was currently taller than he was, he wasn't going to not show. He was going to arrive while riding on his dog's back, though. Because why walk through town when you can just convince your dog that it was time for a run?

"... Oh. My."

Of course, the inside of the warehouse was significantly larger than he was used to, once they were inside. Maybe he'd just... wait by the door, and let Stance run around the rest of the open space. If Master Solo showed, he'd really rather not have to trek clear across the whole space to greet her.

Jaina still showed, not long after Kanan got there. She would have been earlier, but she didn't have a dog, and short legs were now even shorter and she didn't want to hear it.

"Why couldn't we just all think we were just someone else for the weekend?" she greeted him.

"Because then we would probably miss our plans here," Kanan offered. "Not that I have a lightsaber at the moment. Or... I do. But I wasn't going to strap it to my dog."

Stance made another circuit past them, leaving a breeze in his wake that had Kanan taking a half-step to keep from getting blown over.

"So. This one is new."

"Yeeeep. I did not see this one coming," Jaina sighed. "On the plus side, this weekend is great for figuring out new uses to the Force."

"Like asking my dog permission to ride around on his head," Kanan offered. "Usually I just use it to remind him that the ducks in the park will absolutely kick his ass if he bothers them too much."

Just Dog Owner Priorities.

"That's smart, and I'm jealous you have a dog," she admitted.

"He followed me home, and now the dog has me," Kanan replied, smiling wryly. "If you need a lift back to wherever you're staying, though, he's--" Stance zoomed by again, and again, Kanan stepped to keep from being blown over, "-- still got plenty of energy to get you there."

"I'm going to take you up on that, if he doesn't exhaust himself by then," she said, and added, "Maybe we shouldn't stand here."

"Good point," Kanan replied, glancing over his shoulder to see where Stance was at in his next circuit. "I'm not actually in the mood to find out how well I hold up to getting trampled today."

He nodded to a place a fair distance into the warehouse where a couple of crates were set up as makeshift chairs and a table. Very, very large ones.

"Around those, at least he'll have to slow down a bit first."

"And if we can get on top of the crate, we're fine as long as he doesn't knock it over."

Excuse her, she had to take a moment to facepalm. "I could have been at home this weekend."

"Aren't weekends following social functions great? 'I guess I should add doll clothes to my growing pile of things I'll only wear on the island' was an actual thought that went through my head today."

After freezing his ass off on the way to work. He still didn't have shoes.

"I'm not sure if that's a step up or down from my normal way of doing things," Jaina said. "When I was in school we got invaded so much that I started almost only wearing Earth clothes because I didn't want guts on my actual clothes anymore."

"We don't have as much of that these days," Kanan mused as he started heading toward the crates. "Last invasion of note was snowmen."

He shook his head.

"And before that it was a singing fish."

That he was pretty sure was possessed.

"I heard about that one," she said, heading over herself. Did she have to walk a little faster because she was shorter? Yes. Shut up. "At least this place keeps you guessing... I guess."

"It's still marginally better than home," Kanan offered. "... Usually. I'm reaching the point in my life where I'd rather be single-handedly raiding an Imperial supply depot than waiting to become a teenager for the fourth time in my life."

"I don't mind that one," Jaina considered. "Depending on what year. I wish there was a way to have an input on that."

"So far, I've had the great luck to either end up a teenager during the war, or directly after it. I'd really just rather... not. With that."

Ever again. Thanks, Fandom. You were a real pal.

"There are certain things I'd rather not revisit," she admitted, because if Fandom ever made her look like Jacen again it would be even less pretty than last time, "but I think this place broke my brain enough by throwing so many family members at me that it's easier to bounce back from stuff."

"I think the closest I've got there are a handful of kids I can't see ever happening," Kanan admitted. "It's hard to throw family members at me otherwise. Other Jedi, sure. There've been a few around here who were Jedi during my time in the Order, even. But nearly all of them have moved on now."

Which didn't leave him quite where he had started, but still left him quietly floundering all the same.

"Is that good or bad that they've left?" Jaina checked.

"I haven't entirely decided," Kanan settled on. And then relented a moment later. "It was good to see familiar faces again. Ones I knew had some idea of where I'd been, why I was running. Master Kenobi played no small role in convincing me to stop hiding, at least here. To get my head around the idea that the galaxy wasn't going to just fix itself if I didn't step up."

"So you got the tough love and now you get to work it out on your own?" she said.

Kanan huffed out a small, if wry, laugh.

"Basically, yeah," he acknowledged. "I've got the guidance of the Force and I've got my own instincts and what I can remember of my training. Piecing it all together and making something useful out of it without getting myself killed right out the gate is the hard part."

"And that's why you get long distance Jedi Masters from another universe to help you out," Jaina smiled.

"That's why," Kanan replied, smiling wryly right back. "Even if I have to chase them around the island asking for pointers like a lost puppy. Seems to be paying off."

... He had yet to chase Atton or Anakin around that way, even though they were still around. He couldn't imagine they were terribly interested in picking up a Padawan anyway.

"You haven't done that, and you don't need to," she told him. "You can say 'hey, I need some help' and tah dah, you can get it."

Barring crises at home, of course.
