Kanan's Warehouse, Friday Morning and Afternoon

Meditating in the morning, lightsaber training in the afternoon... it was basically the new status quo for Kanan in his warehouse today.

... Well, maybe there was a little bit more focus on whether there were any gremlins in the area while he was meditating this morning.

And it was completely possible that his attention was mostly directed toward the floor while he trained with his lightsaber in the afternoon.

He wasn't paranoid, damn it. That would be absurd.

Another week, another early call. Rey figures she should probably be texting just in case her partners showed up early, but. Here she was anyway.

And here was Kanan answering, once again taking that early call as a good sign.

"Hey again, Rey," he greeted, tabling his meditation for the time being in favor of the weekly call. "How goes things?"

"Could be worse. Still doing work most of the time." She was still a little wary about it, but it was also going well, so. "How about you?"

"Besides being stalked by a particularly ambitious gremlin, pretty well," Kanan replied, sighing. "There was one in the 'fresher on Sunday, and then yesterday the little sleemo attacked my class."

No casualties. This gremlin was apparently bad at gremlining.

Rey raised her eyebrows. "You're sure it was the same gremlin?"

"You're not the first person to ask that," Kanan sighed. "I'm reasonably certain it was the same gremlin."

How often did people get attacked by gremlins twice in one week?

"For your sake, I hope it's not the same gremlin." Because that would mean getting stalked by a gremlin.

After her classes Breq headed to the warehouse. She might not completely admit it, but she was excited to see what Kanan was going to suggest she'd work on today.

"Good afternoon," she said as she stepped through the door. "Anything on the floor?"

"Not yet, and that's how I like it," Kanan replied with a wry smile. "I've avoided two gremlin attacks this week so far. I'm keeping an eye out in case the little green menace gets it in its head to try for a third."

"They've taking a liking to you? Keeping an eye out sounds like a good idea, unless you want to entertain the people around you."

Breq would have felt sorry for him. Mostly.

"Much as I appreciate entertaining the masses, I would really like to avoid any unnecessary gremlin bites."

Which, in his estimation, were all of them.

Breq walked over to the bamboo swords and picked one up.

"I have to say I agree."

Kanan gave her another little smile, and then nodded toward the sword.

"Let's kick off with you showing me the forms we went over last week," he offered. "And we can talk about anything you might not be completely comfortable with yet."

"I don't think trimming your toenails with the lightsaber's the best idea," Kaidan said dryly when he showed up. "What the heck are you doing?"

"Keeping an eye open for potential threats to my ankles," Kanan muttered, glancing Kaidan's way. "I've had two gremlin encounters this week, and that either means one's got a vendetta against me, or the one I chucked out a window is rallying the troops. Either way, I'd rather not get bitten while I'm working with a plasma weapon."

Kaidan's eyebrows rose but he didn't laugh. It was a struggle, but he didn't laugh. "Why did you throw a gremlin out a window?"

"Because that's what happens to gremlins who set up shop behind my toilet."

Little green bastard had it coming.

And now Kaidan had to lean back against the wall near the swords and just laugh himself into oblivion.

You can't say that and not have it project the image that you were using the toilet when you found out, Kanan.

Kanan was going to just shut off his lightsaber and cross his arms over his chest.

"Whenever you're done."

Lana came in, watched Kanan for a second, and frowned. "Do I want to know what you're doing?"

[uncertain_dume]

"I'm refusing to be caught off-guard by that gremlin again," Kanan muttered. "The last thing the island needs is a gremlin bite while I'm working with my lightsaber."

That would be... bad.

"Have you considered a shield generator?" Lana asked. "Around here, it might have multiple uses."

[uncertain_dume]

"I... have not."

And now Kanan was kind of vaguely amazed that it had sort of escaped his list of options.

"They're not exactly cheap, though. You're talking about personal shield generators? Or something to cover the doors and potential cracks in the walls?"

"The latter," Lana said. "Something to keep the place safe from...whatever, around here."

[uncertain_dume]

Kanan's brows arched up slightly.

"You know how much those things cost?"

A personal shield generator would be easier.

And still not cheap.
