Astrid had convinced Apu to let her help him out with some of the displays he was setting up for Valentine's Day cards and candies and other little trinkets and gifts, which seemed like a good idea at the time. She just wanted something to do, and she'd already practically filled up a whole sketchbook.
But what had started out as just friendly assistance was quickly turning into a sort of unspoken competition between the two of them, starting out with a subtle on-upping on Apu's part and building quickly from there until, the next thing they knew, they were trying to make their competing displays more elaborate or creative or interesting than the other.
Surprisingly, there actually was enough product to continue this throughout the day, too. No one should have any trouble finding something if they came in shopping for the holiday today.
