It really didn't surprise Astrid at all to come into the store today and discover that Apu had sort of gone all out for the whole International Women's Day, up to and including a banner with this year's theme neatly printed on it and doused in glitter and actually being nice and pleasant toward her for a change.
Leaving her to really wonder if she should say anything about how she felt he kind of missed the mark by putting out clearly feminine-coded versions of products out on prominent display and doing the banner in bright pink with flowers on it. Also, she wasn't entirely sure if his insistence on giving all women shoppers an across-the-board discount today was counterintuitive to the whole concept of equality or actually a gesture of compensation for previous hardships, but she did know that she didn't get paid nearly enough for this job to bother venturing into those particular debates with him.
So she was mostly just going to enjoy the fact that his withering looks at her were reduced by at least fifty percent today, even if she could tell he really had to put effort into it. There had even, begrudgingly, been flowers, and, for her part, an actual, sincere thank you to him for it.
