Caritas, Friday Evening
Tino was getting such looks from Fjord today.
There might have been a comment about how he would be so lucky to be green on Sunday, one that Fjord was lacking any manner of context for, which mostly meant that he was going to spend his day faintly paranoid about whatever was to come.
And also wondering why Tino was going around the bar hanging up big paper clovers. Shamrocks, Tino had explained, as though that had meant anything at all to Fjord.
And then Tino had retreated to go and set a slab of corned beef in a pot of water to leech out some of the salt, and Fjord finally had to admit that he had no idea what the hell was going on.
The bar was open, though.

"'Evening, Fjord," she greeted with the customary nod as she got to the bar. "Expecting some leprechauns today, are we?"
Which were a real thing where she was from; it was a legitimate question that anyone from Daventry would assume when waltzing into somewhere to find it all decked out with shamrocks. Sure, Amaya'd experienced a St. Patrick's Day here before, but how was she expected to remember all of these holidays after a full year when there were just so damn many?

"Uh..." Fjord glanced at Tino. Tino just shrugged. Fjord looked back at Amaya and shrugged, too. "Apparently? I have no damn clue what's going on here right now."
Nobody was telling him anything. It was kind of vexing, honestly.
no subject
"Well," she allowed, "I do know this much. If they do plan on showing up, I sure hope that protectiion spell that this place has on it extends to leprechaun grabs as well as punching and kicking. I don't know how you two feel about it, but I'd rather not spend the rest of my life peeling potatoes. I can't even tell you how much of my life already has been spent trying to pick those," she pointed up toward the shamrocks overhead, "out of my garden to try to keep them from running around, trampling all over my petunias."
no subject
Fjord glanced at the shamrocks again, and then tilted his head at Amaya, clearly that much more confused.
"... Wait, potatoes?"
no subject
"Potatoes," she confirmed. "They say, if you actually manage to catch a leprechaun, then they have to lead you to treasure, but I've never met anyone actually deft enough to catch one of 'em. Not worth the risk, anyway, if you ask me. They're quick, and wily, and fit into very small places, and, most importantly, if they catch you first, well, then...you're stuck peeling potatoes for them for the rest of your life."
That particular detail might have been a bit...Daventry-specific.
no subject
Fjord gave a slow blink while he... processed that one.
"Big fans of potatoes, then." A pause. "Any show up in here, I'm reasonably certain the protection spell would keep us safe."
Much as he wanted to re-live any 'cabin boy' days again. Truly.
no subject
"They love 'em," she confirmed. "In fact, I think that might be all they eat. That could explain why they've got so much treasure, by sustaining themselves on such a simple yet economical diet."

"Hell if I know," Fjord sighed. "So far, 'green.'"
He had the weirdest feeling that the whole situation was mocking him, personally.

Guess who was going to eat so much corned beef this weekend. Guess.
no subject
"Your guess is as good as mine," Fjord grumbled. "If it was for me, you'd think somebody would have at least told me as much."
But no. Fjord was never so lucky.
no subject
As if she ever did.
no subject
Fjord considered that one for a moment.
"In order to have an excuse to drink, sure. It's about me," he decided. "You're welcome."
no subject
Which was to say she thought you were pretty awesome, Fjord.

With a 19 on the dex checkBeau reached up and snagged the piece of plastic out of the air, yelping "Jack, what the fuck?" at the same time.Flipping the plastic in her fingers to get a good look at it, though, she grinned. "Heeeeeeeeey. This is dope, dude."
no subject
Had she totally made Beau's birthday Pi Day? She had totally made Beau's birthday Pi Day. It amused her to think people would give her cake on Pi Day because Jack's sense of humor was bent as hell.
The grin widened a little. "Guess how old Fjord is."
no subject
One eyebrow went up, followed by a sneaky smile. "Did you make him like fifty or something?"
no subject
Throwing a thumb toward Fjord, ... Her own thumb, still attached, not one she found on the floor or anything because in this bar THAT HAD TO BE NOTED.. Jack said, "Thirty six. I asked, man. That's the age he wanted to be. Close to over the hill."
She said that last like it was a dirge.

She spotted Beau and pulled Beau's fake ID from her wallet, sending it winging toward her like a shuriken. "Think fast!"
no subject
"Not half bad. Weird obsession with clover in here today, apparently, but besides Tino's... Tino, everything's more or less the usual. And how the hell are you, Jack?"
no subject
She deadpanned, "I'm not wearing green. Double dare any motherfucker to pinch me. I will knock that motherfucker through a wall."
She would, too. "Other'n that, pretty damn good. Class went well, work went well, I got to beat some sense into my idiot brother." Sort of. "Which is why I now need a drink because I was far too sober dealing with Kaidan."
no subject
"Okay, so there's a holiday?" He was already reaching for her usual whiskey, yes. "News to me, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Every time you blink there's another fucking holiday around here."
no subject
She shrugged, "Earth is fucking weird, man. Terrans on other planets get all worked up about this shit even if they never been to Earth."
no subject
Fjord shook his head a little.
"Fuckin' weird," he muttered. "We don't have nearly this many holidays back home. Maybe we just have more shit to keep busy with. Some places have Harvest Close festivals. Others have Winter's Crest. But this 'holiday damn near every month' thing? Seems a little indulgent to me."
