Kitty had had a bad day, but at least she got a little break for work.

And then she'd gone to restock something and opened the door to the stock room and had to phase through the avalanche of fruit that fell out. Why was there fruit, let alone that much? Good question!

Rosa took one look at Kitty, one look at the specials board, and felt she could sort of figure things out enough from there that her next look at Kitty had a touch of sympathy in it that you didn't even have to look too hard for.

"Could be worse," she offered. Which was something she was pretty sure no one needed to tell Kitty, really, but she was never one to pass up on a lazy conversation starter.

Kanan, too, was giving the specials board a once-over, and meeting it with a bit of a laugh.

"How much fruit do you figure I can eat before it goes off?"

He was going to have to get his hands on that vacuum-sealer of Jack's and freeze as many berries as he could fit in his freezer. He was already making nefarious plans for exactly that.

"If I can't clear it out, I'm sure Eliot would be happy to get at least some of it over at Luke's. Or I can haul it off to a shelter on the mainland tomorrow for you."

"It could be vegetables, which is harder to make drinks out of?" Kitty said.

"I'm guessing there's about a week's shelf life?" Kitty said. "Donation is the plan for all the extra but there's so much and I'm wondering if I should introduce Lexi to solids to get rid of it."

"Keep some of the softer stuff and let her gum on it for a while?"

... Kanan had been reading up, since his, 'the baby is in the onesie wrong' adventure.

"I think they make little mesh things so she can gnaw the juice out of them to her heart's content."

Reading up a lot.

"Bloody Marys all day," Rosa mused. "But, sure, that's a good one. That's a whole can of worms," worms, Kitty. Worms could be worse, "that we don't need to open. Got any peaches back there? Fix me up a bellini?"

"You can even mush it up as baby food," Kitty added, filing those ideas away. "I'd have to look into what she could even have yet. I didn't really start thinking about it till right now for some crazy reason. I'm intrigued by the mesh thing."

There was sooooo much.

"Coming right up," Kitty said, grabbing a couple peaches. "Tonight we're going to have adventures with food processors oh god that's a thing I really just said."

"They look pretty handy," Kanan admitted, pulling out his phone and poking at google until he managed to find a page about them.

... That he'd bookmarked.

Don't judge him.

"Keeps them from choking on solid bits while letting them get a taste for things that aren't milk, I guess?"

Look, he was really committed to not hecking up the babysitting gig again.

"Would it make you feel any better," asked Rosa, "if I were to tell you that's not the first time I've been exposed to the phrase 'adventures with food processors'? And that it's a lot less disturbing coming from you."

A lot.

Charles Boyle should be banned from all kitchen appliances forever.

"I like that you've researched this," Kitty had to say. She had to.

"It makes me a little worried in general in a way I can't explain," Kitty answered thoughtfully.

"That's...fair," said Rosa, after a moment to think about that one. "It's not as ominous as I made it sound." Rosa? Making something sound more dramatic than it necessarily was? Never! "If you ever get the chance to meet this guy I work with up in Brooklyn," which hopefully no one ever would, "it'll all make sense within about two seconds of getting him close to anything that even resembles food."

Resembles. Because she refused to believe half the stuff...no, most of the stuff Boyle came up with should be considered 'food.'

"I'm never putting Lexi's onesie on backwards ever again," Kanan replied, solemnly.

"Do your work friends show up for Parents Weekend?" She somehow didn't think Rosa would be inviting her home.

"So you looked up baby strainers?" This was adorable.

"... And teething rings," Kanan admitted. "And in another year or two, I've got toddler potties figured out. I think."

This was normal, dammit.

You were definitely getting a look, Kitty, because what was this 'work friends' you spoke of? Those were words that did not go together.

"Not if I can help it," she said, but she knew one-hundred percent that if her 'work friends' knew about Parents Weekend, she'd have to stock up on yogurt. Especially after the Sergeant found out about...

...nope. Not even thinking about it in narrative.

"I wouldn't even want my parents showing up for Parents Weekend."

Of course, right now, that would probably not be a problem, anyway.

Which was fine.

Whatever.

"This is the cutest thing," Kitty said.

"Those are two very different things," Kitty pointed out. "My mom can never get away then, but any of my friends can and will show."

Sometimes it was nice and awkward with Illyana back when they were friends, sometimes it was a dragon.

Rosa shrugged a little. To her, it was all sort of in the same, vague 'way more of my personal life that I'm comfortable sharing' plane.

Which meant latching a little more onto Kitty's stuff. "Do you usually have people visit?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Kanan protested.

...

He did. He knew exactly what she was talking about.

It was adorable.

"Most of the time. Clint's brother comes in sometimes, and I'll usually have someone visiting from my school in New York," Kitty explained, finally thinking to give the peaches to Tino to blend because she was failing. "It mostly depends on who's free." And alive.

""I appreciate it," she smiled. "Should I start texting you before I google things now?"

"And are any of these people sources I can dig into for info on more previous Kitty Costumes?" Rosa asked.

Not that she actually would. She just wanted to dredge that back up. Because she could.
