When Breq entered the shop, she found the Silence chewing on cables. As soon as it saw her, it leapt up on to one of the top shelves, and from there it kept staring at Breq all day, and Breq threw an occasional glance back. She had work to do though, she reminded herself, even if the shop was quiet., literally.
By the afternoon though, all the shelves were dusted and everything looked tidy, Breq had drunk a whole pot of tea, and she had to admit she could think of anything else to do that could be considered actual work, so she reached for a book with bass tabs and ended up practising, ignoring the fact that no sound was heard. The Silence looked displeased.
