When Breq pulled out one of the CDs from the shelf, it made a sound. She tried another one and that did the same, although at a different pitch. After some experimentation she had figured out that pulling out CD cases offered her a rather complicated version of a keyboard, where the notes didn't line up in a practical way, and thus required some memorizing of locations.

After a few hours she had developed a basic proficiency at this unique and probably temporary instrument, which kept her busy for the rest of the day. Best take advantage of it for as long as it lasted.
