Astrid was definitely not getting any work done. Even if Mae didn't show up so they could (presumably) work on their Civics final, she found herself distracted by a different project, one she tried to put in the context of just being like another painting, but the canvas was her face, and the paints were...make-up.
She'd never really done make-up before, except for maybe a quick swipe of her mother's lipstick when they went to galas and gallery openings and things like that. And she'd never really had much of an interest in it before, either, but she knew she had a pretty killer dress for the dance tonight, and felt she should try to really make the whole look come together. And there was a whole plethora of generic make-up available to her at the store, so she was there, behind the cash register with a mirror and a lot of face-cleaning wipes, experimenting and seeing what worked.
She figured it would be okay. She was planning on paying for everything she used. And even if there was still a problem, what were they going to do? Fire her? She was gone after finals, anyway.
For an artist, make-up was turning out to be surprisingly challenging and seeing herself done up in the mirror was surreal and odd but not necessarily unpleasant. She could easily waste her entire day with this...
