Syndulla Scrap, Saturday

Hera had missed opening the place yesterday, so she was here today, checking things out, saying hello to the weirdly mellow bitey bits, and making notes of the inventory Vette had done on Thursday.

It was a lot quieter than last week, though oddly, Hera found she didn't mind those kids as much as she had at first.

The scrapyard was open!

Sabine wasn't really feeling like sticking around the dorms today, and she found herself wandering over to the scrapyard. "Hey, there."

Hera looked up. "Hey." She smiled at Sabine. "How have you been?"

"Okay," she said automatically, and clarified that with, "Been a weird couple of weeks. How are you doing?"

It'd been a weird few weeks all around, probably.

"About the same," Hera admitted. "The kids showing up is always...strange. Before that, I headed off home to look for jobs. Anything to get offworld. You?"

She realized how that sounded. "Not asking for details or anything. Just a general inquiry on how you're dealing with the weird."

Sabine actually appreciated that.

"A lot of art, a lot of shooting practice." Maybe an ill-advised common room party which she hadn't thrown in the first place. "I'm kind of waiting for the hits to stop coming."

"That would be nice," Hera agreed. "Though when that happens, I usually find myself heading back home for more to do."

Hera didn't sit still well.

"Kanan's taken me out a few times, I sure I could ask. And I'm supposed to go on some trip Nina invited me on," Sabine said. "Astrid leaves Monday, though, so I don't want to go before then."

"Your roommate?" Hera asked. She nodded. "We should head out sometime, too. I have a couple jobs on the horizon that might benefit from a bit of demolitions."

"I'd be interested," Sabine said, though she wasn't getting her hopes up until it actually happened. "It'd probably be cathartic to blow bad things up."

"We all have our hobbies," Hera said, smiling at her. "And the Empire does have some very bad things."

"Just tell me when, I'll be there. At least after whatever this week turns out to be," she said. "I guess we have kind of similar takes on dealing with the weird."

"Getting out of here and doing something useful?" Hera asked. "Definitely works for me. I'll let you know what I find."

"Thanks. And until then, art and shooting things."

Which was my really unlike her life when things were normal.

"And flying and tinkering."

Also rather like normal.

"Has it really been that weird for you lately?" Sabine wondered. She knew at least part of it had been weird for Kanan, at least.

"Weird is...definitely a word for it." Hera sighed. "The children are always a bit of mixed good and bad and plain 'hard to wrap my brain around'. The bit before, I could do without."

"I think we all could," Sabine agreed, totally willing to gloss over that entire week. "I did get to meet Jacen."

Hera smiled a little. "What did you think?"

"I liked him. Smart kid, obviously pays attention," Sabine said with a little smile of her own. And maybe she was debating whether to bring up that he'd known her.

Which was still weird.

"He's already a pretty good pilot, too," Hera said. It was hard not to be proud of that.

"It'd be wrong if he wasn't," Sabine pointed out, because hi.

"It really would," Hera agreed. "Even if this time he apparently ran off with Kanan's ship."

Sabine laughed, but caught herself quickly and cleared her throat. "I mean, that's terrible."

Hera smirked. "Terrible but also funny," she admitted. "He did bring it back."

"Terrible but funny and responsible," Sabine pointed out, like an enabler who didn't have to deal with it. At least for many years.

"Well, it'd be wrong if he wasn't," Hera parroted back.

Summer had been meaning to track Hera down for a while now, but now that she didn't even have to worry about helping out with Furnado, today seemed as good of a day as ever. She was hoping to catch her at the scrapyard, though, instead of going to pester her at the apartment, because if she wound up there, she would not be leaving because she'd been slacking off on getting quality Stance time in, too.

But no more Furnado! What was she going to do with all that time?

Well...

"Hera! You around?"

"Over here!" Hera waved at Summer, smiling. "Hi! I haven't seen you around in too long."

"Yeah, I knooooow," Summer agreed, groaning apologetically and snorting. "Just been really busy lately, but my temporary reign over Furnado has finally come to an end. And there's been something I've been meaning to talk to you about, but just haven't had a chance."

Hera eyed her curiously. "What is it?" She waved toward the office. "Should I get us some Cokes?"

"Sure," Summer shrugged a little. "I'll have a Coke. And it's just about ships, really. I bent Kanan's ear a little bit about it, but I figured I'd be best just going to the expert."

Hera grinned. "I will always talk ships." She hurried off and came back with two cans, handing one to Summer. "Should we head for the landing pads to talk? What can I help you with?"

"Sure, we could do that," Summer nodded, ready for Hera to leave the way. "And I just wanted your thoughts because I've been thinking about it, and it's probably about time I got my own ship. I mean, I could just grab one from my universe, but I'd rather get to skip that kind of awkward conversation when I'm out there."

Oh, the jello and the cat, she had no problem with that, but foreign vehicle model was definitely a place to draw a line...

"Something not too expensive, obviously," she continued. "Something small and unassuming that I can also use for business. Kanan suggested something like the Phantom. I was just thinking maybe we can actually look for something that'll need some fixing up, and then maybe you could help me with getting it up and running, because that way, I'll be prepared if anything happens to break down. I don't know, if you don't mind. If it doesn't sound like something a little too ambitious. I figured you'd probably have an idea where we can go to get one."

Hera nodded. "I've got a few ideas. I think it's a good one to fix something up; then you'd know it inside and out. And I'm happy to help. Why don't I start by showing you the Phantom and going over the possibilities? You can tell me what you're looking for."
