The Park, Friday Afternoon
Well... that whole week could have gone worse, Kanan supposed. The itching feeling of dread had more or less faded, which left just the lingering bouts of free-floating trauma around the island that was usual in the wake of this sort of thing.
Which meant it was a Friday as usual for training and the like, though today he'd brought Stance, and he'd made his way to the park rather than the warehouse, letting the pup run free to harangue the ducks while he sat himself down under a tree in the shade, and he read more of that book that the moose had foisted off on him.
He didn't necessarily agree with it all, but he could see some of the wisdom behind it all the same.
There were a few practice swords propped up against the tree, in case anybody was feeling up to training or sparring today, but otherwise... eh. He was more or less just taking it easy this afternoon.
With a book.
About a stuffed bear.

"Pfleh! Puppy breath!" Kaidan accused, eventually catching Stance's head and plopping a kiss between his ears. "Hi, buddy. You're having some fun with the ducks, huh?"
no subject
Kanan gave a little chuckle at that.
"You get 'im, buddy," he told Stance, before shooting Kaidan a smirk. "He's been having fun with every duck today. But I haven't had to rescue him or them yet, so I'm calling it a win."
He closed his book, dog-earing the page he was on as he did so, and held it up for Kaidan to see.
"Apparently I'm teaching this, this summer. I suppose if anyone's going to teach the class on inner nature, it's going to be the island's most twitchy Jedi, right?"

"Pretty sure so long as I'm okay with it, you're welcome to," Kanan replied, smirking crookedly. "How much do you enjoy 'hunny?'"

"Sorry, darling," Kanan replied. "The book says honey, and so honey it's going to be."

"Oh, no," Kanan laughed, "extracting honey from the tree is going to be my job. I have a certain sort of way with bees."
A pause.
"And a credit card. And a friend who runs a convenience store."
Thank the Force for capitalism.
no subject
He wouldn't put it past Kanan to do exactly that.
"Less risk of getting stung the other way, though."
no subject
"Much less. Anyway, I wouldn't want to risk traumatizing anybody with swarming insects so early into the summer. I'll save trauma for maybe the next term, with a rancor or three."
Kanan never claimed to be a nice guy.

"And it was great."
Kanan, stop grinning like that, you ass.

"In hindsight, I'm not entirely certain myself," Kanan admitted. "I think we were talking about animals from home. Summer had her cat. I probably should have gone with something slightly less murderous, like a Kowakian monkey-lizard or a womp-rat."
Womp rats were not that much less murderous, admittedly.

Except in adorable children's books.

"I don't know that a pack of nexu would've been much better," he replied, amused. "They're faster and smarter than rancors, and you don't know they're coming until you're dead, generally."
A beat.
"But I suppose I could have shoved a cub or two at them."
no subject
All of them? Probably.

"Hey, those mouths are way less bear-trappy," Kanan protested lightly. "... But that doesn't stop them from trying."

"You do get a point for that one," Kanan allowed, laughing and shaking his head. "I haven't met many people who want to snuggle a nexu."
... He had kind of wanted to cuddle
MurderbritchesCliff.no subject
To be fair, he'd also wanted to cuddle Murderbritches after the cub had stopped trying to bite his face off. The sleeping cub had been awfully cute.

"I guess even nexu need to be cuddled sometimes," Kanan noted. "I don't much blame her for it, if she does end up wanting to try."
A pause.
"Hell, it might be one of the few things that could hold its own against those creatures she's got back home."
no subject
And she'd try, too. He'd met her.
