Summer really had to pull out the big guns this morning when it came to sign-making, going for a full out banner hastily scribbled down and decked out with glitter to hang from the roof of the store today:

I ASSURE YOU WE ARE OPEN! AND DRY!
Please enter through the roof!

Apu had already stacked sandbags in front of the submerged main entrance anyway, just in case anyone was dumb enough to try to get through them. Somehow, thankfully (Summer nearly had a heart attack when she woke up that morning, eightteen again and broke as shit and not wanting to deal with having to replace a bunch of expensive equipment despite the iron clad insurance the store had), the interior of the store was entirely dry, none of the goods were damaged, and there seemed to be a miraculous extra shipment of things like towels and goggles and flippers if anyone was interested in all that.

She just really hoped it all stayed that way.

Nina's trip out and into the town proper had been fraught with water at least until she'd found a gondola and got that to bring her over to her destination.

Climbing in through the roof was something that was not actually a hindrance to her--even in her long skirt--since she had practice, but Nina was still damper than she'd like to be and vaguely horrified at everything.

She missed the weird lizards. Even if she was glad Foomy was back to normal.

"Ohmygoooooooooooooooosh, Summer whhhhhhhhhhhhy is everything like this?!?!?!??!?!??!!"

Summer had to smirk a little at the primo-level melodrama for a moment before just sort of shrugging. "Guess the island just got sick of dinosaurs," she offered, "and decided to....make us face the impending threat of global warming, I guess? I don't know, but I do know it's going to be a huge pain in the butt getting around unless you're, like, Sidon or something."

Who was probably loving this. Good for him. Ahe was glad someone actually could.

"So props on making it in, Nina. I should give you a discount just for making the effort."

"Like, at least I know how to swim," she complained, since melodrama really was one of the things she did best. "But ohmygosh, I'm like, totally scared to go check out my bookstore............."

Which was the real, main reason she was in town today at all, but Nina was also good at multi-tasking and avoidance, so...

She'd get there eventually.

"But," she added, "I would never say no to a discount!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Ugh, yeah," Summer's nose wrinkled a little in sympathetic disgust. "No one wants to deal with damp, musty, waterlogged books...So I hope whatever's going on over there, you guys are at least blessed with the same apparently solid waterproofing construction we've got going on here.

"In the meantime, though," she tilted her head, "what brings you in today? Unfortunately, the cute swimwear I had ordered for summer hasn't even come in yet."

It was, like, a total tragedy of timing.

"That was, like, one of my hopes and dreams, totally down the drain," Nina sighed, though really, she was shockingly unsurprised at this point by how the island liked to mess up everything.

But, whatever, she would cope. Maybe see if Demon Marcus was underwater or not.

... at least swimsuits were meant to be underwater.

She brightened at that thought, and shook her head. "But, like, another thing I was looking for was, like, a tablet?????????? Do you have those here???????????"

Because she had an awful lot of reading to do and doing it on her phone was a sure way to pain.

"That's a bold move," Summer stated, with a bit of a laugh, "looking to pick up a nice, new droppable-sized piece of technology with what it's like out there right now, but, yeah, we've totally got some. Not nearly as big a selection as if you went to an electronics store, but if there's anything in particular you're looking for that we don't have, we can always try to special order it. Come on." She quirked her head and waved her arm in the direction she was headed as she came around from behind the counter. "I'll show you."

"I mean, my phone is also a droppable-sized piece of technology and it's fine so far," Nina said, with a laugh, as she followed Summer. "And it's just not big enough for the work I want to do. I, like, thought about a laptop but those are too big to lug around easily and I wouldn't want to, like, just leave it in my room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nina was maybe a bit paranoid?

"So a tablet sounds just about right, yeah," Summer agreed easily, grinning over at her as they neared the modest electronics section, giving a gesture toward the selection of tablets if Nina wanted to start perusing. "What kind of work are you planning on doing with it?"

"Research, mostly," Nina said, leaning forward to look at one of them as if she had any idea of what she was looking for. "Like, I plan to do a lot of reading, but I've also been looking into other ways of finding out information???????????"

Hacking, Nina. You meant hacking.

"Hmmmmm," Summer considered that for a moment, as if she really knew a whole lot about specs on a tablet herself, tapping her chin a little. "Maybe something like this one?" she asked, picking one of the boxes off the shelf. "Should have good memory for storing and saving all the things to read, plus a decent processor for at that other research..."

She...thought?

"Plus," and this was added with significantly more confidence than that other stuff, "this one has some of the cutest accessories and of course we totally have them here, too."

"I do like cute accessories," Nina conceded, since that... that was a solid A+ in her books. "And, like, I'm sure I could figure out how to mod the tablet into what I need it to be, if the basic specs don't work out???????????????"
