Modern Earth Entertainment, Thursday

Peter waved at everybody with a relieved smile. "We're back to popcorn and chips today, along with sodas." Hopefully they'd be able to keep it up for at least a few weeks. "The movie itself is on theme again, and I really hope it's not traumatizing, because I haven't had the best of luck with animated things, but the squirrels think it's good." He paused. "I hope I'm not going to regret trusting them. Anyway, sit back and hopefully enjoy!"

There is popcorn!

Seivarden took a seat and quickly secured her own bowl of crisps. And a soda. And then a white, fluffy cat jumped up into her lap.

"Are you sure this is worth watching?" Issa asked Seivarden. "I don't really trust the squirrels' taste in movies."

Seivarden was about to answer 'who does?' when she remembered that Peter had just admitted to at least tentatively doing so, so she said nothing and just scratched Issa's head.

"No talking during the movie, ok?"

Peter nodded at them both. "I'm not sure I do, either, but I didn't have a better idea," he told Issa.

"If we get bored we'll go home," Issa said, speaking for Seivarden too. "Did you bring any snacks for me?"

"Sorry, Princess. I didn't know you were coming." Peter shrugged. "You can probably eat the popcorn, though, if you want to."

It was a bit of a shame that having Issa here meant not having Fjord, but she didn't blame him one bit, especially not after all his popularity with the local felines around the forge earlier.

But this was going to be interesting...

...as well as give her more data on which one of the two of them was the crankiest.

"Captain," she greeted Seivarden with a nod, and then one went to the cat, "Issa. Good to see you. Feeling a bit more sociable, are you, under the current circumstances?"

[[ I know it's laaaaaate, but I haaaaad tooooo ]]

Amaya wasn't really one of Issa's favourite people, since Issa had been locked out of the bedroom last time Amaya visited. She wasn't going to be more resentful than necessary though.

"Amaya," Seivarden greeted her, smiling. "Issa thought it was about time she came along."

Issa made herself as large as possible in Seivarden's lap. "Are you sure you want to see this one? Not a lot of explosions, I think."

[It's never too late!]

Hey, now, one night locked out of a bedroom seemed a pretty small price to pay for having nearly two whole weeks of complete and total reign over the couch, if you asked Amaya! Cat's got her priorities all wrong!

Also, she didn't want to say that she hoped Issa's joining them wasn't going to be a regular thing, but she was thinking it. Nothing against the cat herself, she was a lovely cat and Amaya rather liked her, but if it was a choice between Issa or Fjord in the audience...

...you didn't stand a chance in that one, Issa.

"There's never enough explosions," Amaya agreed with a wistful sort of smile and a sigh to match, "but I'll make do. They can't all be perfect. I'll definitely be interested to hear what you have to think of it. S'rare opportunity, right there."

Even Seivarden would understand why you preferred to have Fjord there instead of Issa. Not that she shared the sentiment, but still.

"Oh, I'll let you know what I think. I don't mind explosions, but they can be too loud sometimes. You know, when you've just made yourself comfortable on the couch, and then BOOM!"

Here Issa unintentionally dug her claws into Seivarden's leg.

"Stop that!" Seivarden told her firmly, but she was scritching her behind the ear at the same time.

She looked at Amaya. "Any interesting unexpected conversations recently?"

"But those are the best ones!" Amaya insisted with a laugh, which settled into a slightly sympathetic look for Seivarden. Slightly. She'd had an encounter or two with unexpected claws all too recently herself to feel that bad about it.

"And, no, not particularly," she admitted. "I've been mostly sticking to the shop, trying to get as much work done as I can this week because who even knows if I'll be able to do the same next week. After everything turning into stone and then everything flooding, I'm not taking any chances."

Seivarden smiled a little. "If you're unable to work next week and get bored, you're welcome to come over and watch another movie."

Issa did the cat version of a glare at Seivarden. "Don't I get a say in that?"

"Well, if it's next week," said Amaya, quirking a brow at that question; here she'd been thinking she and Issa had gotten on well!, "then probably not, technically speakin', since I imagine all this," she waved a vague hand, "will have passed over by then. But if the two of you are in a disagreement about the matter, I suppose we could always call in Peter for a tie-breaker, that'd be nice and democratic, wouldn't you say?

"Although," she added, firmly, a little glare on her own face, though it was for the Island and nothing else, "hopefully, it won't even be an issue at all because the forge will be fine and I'll be plenty busy."

Right, Island???

(Wrong. So, so wrong, Blackstone).

"It's not like I don't like you," Issa said, "But I got locked out of my..."

"Let's not talk about that," Seivarden interrupted. "And no need to embarrass Peter."

She looked at Issa. "I'm allowed to have guests, you know."

And then at Amaya. "But I do hope you can get the work you've planned done."

Then, adding with a smile: "But despite what Issa says, you're welcome."

Smirking faintly, Amaya considered making the argument that, really, Issa'd gotten off easy in that arrangement, but decided that it was definitely best to step far, far away from it before it was too late to get back out again.

So instead, she just gave Seivarden a grateful nod. "Thanks, Captain," she said. "I appreciate the offer, and I'll keep that in mind. If anything, maybe next time, I can try to find something that's a little more similar to my world, give you an idea of what that's like. Nothing's going to be an exact match, unfortunately, because we don't make things like movies where I'm from. But it could be interesting. A lot less spaceships and a lot more dragons."

Seivarden would make an effort not to use the word 'uncivilized'.

"And swords?" she smirked. "I'm up for that though. The movie, I mean."

No swords. She'd be up fot more propositioning though, should that happen."

"You might get my spot," Issa said.

"Always swords," said Amaya, with a grin, and she'd make you a fan of swords yet, Seivarden Vendaai! This whole friendship was just a pretense to break you down to one day having you admit that, okay, swords weren't so bad after all.

...well, it wasn't, but Amaya would be lying if she'd said that that wasn't at least a part of it.

"And isn't your spot pretty much the whole couch, there, Issa?" she added.

"I said you could borrow it." Issa yawned.

"Any crumblers? Or is that your own invention?" Seivarden asked.

Fjord was having one hell of a week. Every damn animal on the island could talk? That was fine. That it meant every damn cat on the island was out and about?

... He eyed Issa for all of three seconds, gave a heavily put-upon sigh, and then turned around and exited the building again.

At least Issa wasn't going to harass him. She just turned her head and looked at Fjord very briefly, then went back to staring at the popcorn bowl. Clearly this person didn't deserve any attention, since her human was ignoring him.

While Amaya was feeling reservations about anything the squirrels might think was good, she was definitely willing to give it as much of a chance as any other movie.

Plus, y'know...popcorn! If anything, there'd be that.

"Hi, Amaya." Peter waved at her. "How is your forge doing? Back to normal?"

"Peter." Amaya nodded, grinning faintly as she sent a small wave of her hand back. "And is it! For now...and hopefully for good, but I'm not holding my breath until I've been clear for at least a few weeks. Truth be told, it was a little hard actually coming in today. Sort of want to make sure I make the most of it while I can, you know? But I just couldn't miss out, and I know the break does me good."

That last part was spoken a bit like she didn't entirely believe that, though.

"Hopefully it'll stay good," Peter agreed. "I suppose we'll see. At least the last few weeks didn't take a permanent toll."

"I wouldn't have minded if last week's upgrades to the Crumbler had stuck around, though," Amaya mused with a small laugh, "but I was smart, I jotted them down and so now I've got a new project waiting for me once I finish up all the ones I had to put on pause thanks to either everything being stone or everything being underwater or everything being of a....errmm...questionable quality."

"Some good things too, then?" Peter asked.

"Some good things, too," Amaya allowed, albeit reluctantly, with a nod. "Not many, but I'll take what I can get. The Crumbler was a beast that week; I'd have not minded if that stuck around..."

Then her head tilted thoughtfully at him. "And how 'bout you? How you holding up through all this? Especially this week, what with the chatty new roommate?"

Peter smiled wryly. "She's not too bad. A lot like the roommate I already had. She bosses the old one around, mostly. We just nod and ignore each other."

Amaya snorted a little, the snort of a person who'd very much now had more to add to an increasing pile of Being Right About Something. "That seems as good a plan as any," she noted. "A bit of mutual acceptance and getting on with your lives."

"Seems the best idea with a cat," Peter agreed.
