Turtle & Canary; Friday [08/09].
Well. Summer and Shunsui had had their sake and steamed buns (and far too many S's), and now she was coming into the store with her laptop and a big fat check to get some paper moving and seal the deal. And she wasn't sure how she felt about it, either. Sure, she knew she was eventually going to try to sell the store or at least pass most of the responsibilities onto someone else and actually leave this planet, this galaxy, this universe completely, and she knew it was going to happen soon, but she maybe wasn't expecting it so soon? But it was the end of summer, her ship was almost ready to go, all she had left was to find a location for her new shop, and now she even had the money (and it was a lot of money, almost staggering, where the hell did Shunsui get that kind of money, anyway? Did she even want to know?) for it. Everything was just falling perfectly into place.
And she kind of hated it, because everything falling perfectly into place meant that everything was going to be set in motion soon and she was not ready.
But she also knew she never truly would be ready. So all she could do was really buckle down, shut up, and get to work, because delaying the inevitable only just made things harder.
It didn't help that Apu was going to be sending the whole day giving her long-suffering sighs and glares, too.
"Don't give me that look," she said. "You knew this was going to happen eventually, and, hey, it's not like you don't know what you're getting into, you've worked with him before, right? And the store stayed in one piece under his watch last time, didn't it? He can't be that bad, and, even if he is, you've still got Amaya around, too, right? You know she'll help out if she can..."
He looked wholly unconvinced, but Summer just shrugged. "It is what it is, man. I don't see you stepping up with a big fat check right now, you know, but I'd be willing to take an offer if you got one."
He did not.
"Didn't think so."

Janet walked up to the counter and said, "Hi there. Is whoever does your hiring in?"
She thought it sounded professional.

But she was also sitting in a store previously run by a nineteen year old with a Squishy machine pumping out chicken flavored icy drink, so...
And that store was also smack dab in the middle of an awkward transitional phase so Summer actually wasn't sure how to best even answer that question right now, tilting her head and blinking thoughtfully. It was so weird thinking that she didn't technically own this place anymore and that she actually had to think about it, but the negotiations involved Summer handling literally everything until the moment she hit atmo, so...
"Yes," she decided. "Yes, she is, because she's me. Are you looking for a job?"
Oh, sure. Now another lackey comes waltzing into the door. She...should probably warn the poor girl about what she was about to waltz into, too, but even Summer didn't know exactly what that was anymore.

Her parents.
And you couldn't call them because they'd yell at her.

Summer had to laugh a little. "References, huh? That's way more than what the last two people I hired had. The one I just kind of hired on the spot and the other one we just decided to keep after she'd put in her time to pay for the damages she'd done to the front of the store when she defaced it. Do you have any retail experience?"
Summer. Come on. Like it even mattered. But if Janet came in here with references and everything, she figured she might have a whole shpiel in mind for an interview and, if so, she wanted to hear it.

"I've worked in my parents' convenience store since I was ten," Janet answered. "You hired someone who defaced your store?"

"She was really good at making signs. We tend to make a lot of signs here. So how are you with signs?"
At this point, the questions really were just for show. Even if Summer had wanted to seriously vet a person, what would it matter to her anyway when she'd be gone soon?

She didn't make the signs at home. Still. She could make a sign.

And then, that itching in the back of Summer's brain started again, and she bit her lip. "Also? Fair warning, you're hitting us at a big transitional period. I, like, literally just signed the papers for this place over to a new owner. He's a bit...eccentric, but he's fine. I mean, if you're not used to weird by now, especially with this summer, then.... well. Either way, I'll still be around for a bit to kind of show you the ropes."
Which was a good thing, too, because she had a feeling Shunsui would either not bother or just try to get the poor girl to drink sake and paint flowers or something all day.
Which wouldn't be a bad way to earn a paycheck, she supposed, but still.

And that... that was not usually something Iris noticed about them.

Paaaause.
"Also, everything I wanted to make this week involved tuna or shrimp." Just think of what a nice addition shrimp would be to all that orange and pretzel. "How's it going, Iris?"
no subject
Sure, there was the mainland, but that required effort.
"But I guess if that's the weirdest part of this week, I can't complain that much? You? I'll take some of that Jello, though, sure."
no subject
She was fine.
"I can start anytime. I could start tomorrow."
