Caritas, Friday Evening
Fjord came into Caritas, expecting... something. Anything. Drinks that turned into pizza when he picked them up or taps that ran only grape soda or plates of spaghetti that appeared on chairs just as someone was about to sit in them. But what he was met with was a completely normal bar.
Really, the weirdest part was that even Tino was acting normal, and Fjord didn't trust it.
"What, you're not even going to try to come up with some terrible new mixed drink tonight?"
Tino shrugged.
Fjord squinted at him.

---well, it hadn't really been very as usual lately, had it? It had been more of a hit and miss sort of thing over the summer, but she supposed that just made it all the nicer that she'd managed to amble on in today.
"'Evening, Fjord," she nodded her greeting when she reached the bar. "How's the day been treating you?"

"So far, so good," Fjord replied, grinning and already making a reach for a glass to pour the requisite ale. "Normal. Today's been normal."
Which was fuckin' weird.
"And you? Make more progress on your machines at all?"
no subject
"No," she admitted. "I got...distracted. with something else, something new, which..." She then frowned, expression and knitted brow going thoughtful. "Can I get your profession option on something, Fjord? Or, heck, I'll take your personal one, too, if you've got it."

"I happen to be plenty opinionated when there's a call for it," Fjord replied, his curiosity piqued. "What did you have on the go now, Amaya?"

"How many spikes," she ventured finally, "do you suppose are just too many spikes, anyway?"
Truly. A conundrum for the ages.

Fjord reached up one hand and scratched thoughtfully at his chin.
"I suppose that depends on what you're puttin' them spikes on," he offered. "I'm assumin' we're back to talking weapons, then?"

Maybe she should; Seivarden would love it.
"You see," she explained, "in Diaz's class earlier, we had this...tournament, of sorts, where everyone paired off and fought each other with these long staffs with foamed cushioned ends. The whole time," or practically the whole time, since she had nothing to do but watch after that first round, "I couldn't help thinking how much more interesting it would all be if they had spikes on them. So, naturally, once it was finished, I headed on over to the shop and got to work trying to figure out a few prototypes, from just the one spike on each end to....well, so many I quite frankly lost count how much I ended up with in the end, which is a beautiful weapon, Fjord, you should see it, but I suppose...technically speaking, it might have been a little...much."
You knew it had to be bad if Amaya was saying it was a bit...much.
"Especially considering the spikes on the haft," she added thoughtfully. "I can see why some might find that a bit unwieldy."

"... So, we're talkin' so many spikes that tryin' to handle the thing might give someone's hand an interestin' new scar?" A beat. "Or an interestin' new window?"
Because he was trying to picture it.
"Beau might be interested," he mused.

Get a nice matching set going.

And maybe just a little concern that this was all well and good until they met a tree that wouldn't take too kindly to all that, but Amaya was hardly concerned. With what the Crumbler did to trees l on her own, she'd already herself an enemy of the trees long before Fjord and Beau came kng.

Fjord, that was bad.
You were bad.
