Devil's Nest, Thursday Night [August 29, 2019]

Eric was used to being feared. He liked being feared. He'd been a vampire for close to 2000 years!

So spending a week as a plastic potato with FANGS was not fearsome. At all. And Eric had spent the last week ~~sulking about it~~ brooding over it.

Fortunately, he'd come up with an amazing solution to reinforcing his awesomeness and simulateous need to be feared: an axe-throwing section attached to the club.

"Now the DJs will stop playing ABBA," he said pointedly at the DJ as he threw an axe straight into the center of the target. "Or face consequnces."

There was a new sign up on the door:

After a handwavey interview process with Eric who is checking to be sure you are not drunk enough to be a danger to yourself or others.

"Axe throw! Axe throw! Axe throw!"

"You're definitely giving the impression that you've done this before," Eric said a little archly.

"Hell yeah! At least. I think I've thrown my axe before." He didn't want to re-listen to the whole podcast again or go on Reddit to check.

"Well, we have ones that are calibrated for throwing, if you'd prefer not to throw your own."

Because it was Fandom and of course people had their own.

Magnus looked super torn on that. On one hand, new weapon. On the other, his precious baby, Railsplitter.

"Can I keep one? You know. Like this is a super dangerous game of cornhole where we have a tournament?"

Yeah, make this a weekly thing, Eric. Think about the clientele that'll attract.

Eric snorted. "You can't take it out of the bar, but you could write your name on it?" he offered.

"Heck yeah," Magnus said with a little fist-pump. "I'm in."

"Well, test it out first and make sure it's to your liking," Eric said.

"Oh, you had me at 'axe,'" Magnus said, grabbing one of them to test the weight.

He had weapons proficiency, Eric.

Eric grinned, fangs flashing quickly. "Thought this would be popular here."

"Wait, are you a Dracula? Legally you have to tell me or its entrapment."

None of that was true anywhere in the multiverse.

"That's not a real thing," Eric told him.

Magnus hummed like he didn't quite buy it. "Pretty sure it is."

"I'm not Dracula," Eric said. "He was annoying."

"I said a Dracula. I mean. There could be more than one. Don't be racist." Magnus, seriously. "But that's true. Dude enthralled me once and I totally tried to kill my friends."

Who is definitely throwing axes. Whee, axes!

"Okaaay, Fandom or just your personal whim?"

Guess who'd picked a fantastic time to come visit! Although Kate hadn't really picked it, it was more like there'd been a flash sale offer of a portal connection to Fandom. But she had been meaning to come by soon, because it had now been ten years since she'd first set foot on Fandom, and guess that meant something.

Though right now it just meant she was standing here, giving Eric an amused look.

"Just my personal whim," Eric said, beaming at her. "Hello, stranger."

"Hi," Kate replied, halfway to beaming. "I'd object to the stranger bit, but last time I was here, you weren't throwing axes, so I guess it has been a while."

"It's a new idea," Eric admitted, reaching out to wrap her in a bear hug. "It's been a fucking trying summer and I could use some violence."

"Hey, I do not want vampires talking about violence at me when they're trying to hug me," Kate complained - not that that was stopping her at all from leaning right into it. No, she did it quite happily. Probably would've complained if he hadn't tried to hug her, too. "Do I even want to know how trying, though?"

She had a scale in her head, after all, from all her years in Fandom.

"Remember how everything gets stupid for about a week before the end the semesters?" Eric said. "We got to revisit most of them from the last decade."

So...about a nine.

Kate pulled back just enough so she could look up at him - come on, she was a clingy hugger who wouldn't give up after a few seconds, this was not news - and look appalled.

"Oh, my God. Which ones?"

"The creepy West Virginia town," Eric said, "and the creepy underwater world. That one where you could bang your head on bricks and get money? Plus a week without sex and one where we all turned into toys and the Toymaker came back to take over."

So. Axes.

"... Oh my God." Yeah, Kate was still stuck on the first one. Eyes wide, the whole thing. "Was it fucking Silent Hill?"

Nine years on, and she still hadn't forgiven that place for what it had done to Bod. So the face she was making was pretty epic.

"Okay now I want to throw axes. So that makes perfect sense."

I will never get rid of this icon.
