The beach, Saturday night

It was a decent night out, and Fandom wasn't trying to kill them (any more than usual), so there was a small bonfire on the beach, and Miguel with a couple twelve-packs of decent beer and a bottle of brandy. He'd sent texts to the usual suspects, but he was prepared for any newcomers, too.

Once he got everything set up, he headed over to Liam and Verity's place and all but dragged and pushed and prodded Liam out to the beach, too. "This week's meeting of the Drunk and Bored club has a special guest!" he told anybody that was there. "Happy engagement to Liam and Verity!"

"Now here's something I pretty much almost forgot was even a thing," noted Rosa, coming up along with beach with a bottle of whiskey in one hand and a case of shitty beer in the other, for old times' sake. "Guess we haven't had the chance to be bored enough lately."

Drunk? Yes.

Bored? Ugh no.

"Fuck I miss boredom," Verity said fervently. "Nice, quiet, non-life-threatening boredom."

Not that she didn't enjoy the occasional life-threatening here and there, but after three solid months of it, she was ready for a vacation.

"Enjoy it while it lasts," Rosa said with a snort. "I'm sure the island'll be back to its old bullshit again soon enough, but it's nice that it seems to be taking its time getting back around to it after this summer."

Then she nodded. "Verity. I hear congratulations are in order."

By the time they made it down to the beach, Liam’s expression had changed from totally bewildered to mostly bemused... though still a little bewildered.

“Thanks, man,” he managed with a grin after Miguel’s announcement. He eyed those beers, wondering if he ought to take one for appearances sake.

"Hey." When Rosa had the chance, she made sure to go over to Liam, lifting her chin in greeting. And approval. "Congrats, boss. I'd send flowers, but I wouldn't want you worrying that I was bit by a gremlin or something."

"Hey, can't just let an ex-roomie get engaged without doing something for it," Miguel said. "Beer?"

No was okay, Liam. This just wasn't called the Bored Teetotalers' Club.

Jack rocked up just in time to hear the announcement. "Engaged? Gross." Beat. "Congratulations, though, you insufferably happy bastard. Want a Coke?"

Jack was carrying rum and the requisite coke, as well as a bottle of whiskey. She'd noticed Liam eyeing the beer and considering he'd just told her he wasn't drinking much anymore, had decided to pretty much treat him like Kanan.

Was that Beau shaking a bottle of champagne vigorously and aiming it in his general direction, both hands wrapped around the neck of the bottle and poised to pop the cork out? Yes. Yes, it absolutely was.

The fact that she'd given him a heads up spoke volumes about whether she valued him as a friend.

Right, because Beau was going to pass up a chance at getting drunk.

She'd brought a case of decent beer tonight, plus a couple of bottles of nice wine that she'd gotten in Napa Valley. (Not the really good wine, thank you, that was staying at home. But this was still pretty damn good stuff.) Also a couple of packs of stemless plastic wine glasses.

And a corkscrew. Just because hitting the bottles until the corks popped out, while fun, took too much time.

Also a bottle of champagne. Not really good champagne, because that wasn't the point of this champagne.

"You know, I had not pegged you for a wine drinker," Verity said, holding up her thermos of dark rum and ginger beer. "Now I'm worried I gotta step up my alcohol game."

Verity's mun was in Maine for a wedding and then heading back to a larp because ahahaha her life is out of control, so SP all the way wasn't technically a member of the Drunk and Bored club, but she'd been invited along for the special occasion and hell if she wasn't gonna go for the booze.

And the schmoopy grins at Liam, let's be real.

"Thank you!" she said, holding up a thermos of Dark 'n Stormies which was absolutely for sharing.

Duke was not yet a member of this club, having only been in town for a week, but there was a bonfire on the beach, which clearly meant revelry was to be had. And he was a revelry fan.

He walked up slowly, hands in his pockets, and took in the small crowd. Some he knew, some not so much yet. He stopped just inside the firelight.

"Hope I'm not interrupting anything."

There was no reason at all for Beau to be that loud, but she was in full on boisterous and kind of annoying mode here. First impressions were important.
