Coming into the store, Summer couldn't help noticing the signage and had to snort when she read it.

Fair enough.

"Hey, Janet," she said, giving the girl a smile as she headed over. "How's it going today?"

"Pretty good so far," Janet told her. "I haven't pissed Apu off and no one's been rude, I'll call that a win."

"That's definitely a win," Summer agreed with a nod, fighting the temptation to give Apu a look to suggest that it needed to stay that way. "Not pissing off Apu is a day-to-day challenge with this job, for sure, but if that's the case, you're off to a good start. The last kid I hired pissed him off just by existing, so you've already got a leg up."

There was...a slight pause.

"Which," she decided to continue with, leaning on the counter and looking at Janet thoughtfully, "is a good thing, too, with what I came in to talk to you about. How would you feel about getting trained to do orders? Shunsui should be doing them, but I'm not feeling to confident about actually leaving that entirely in his lap after I leave, so it'll be good to have someone else knowing how to do them, just in case. It'll be a pay hike, too, I'm not going to shoulder you with more responsibility without compensation. Especially since you're the one who's gonna be stuck with that guy."

"I love compensation," Janet said, and added, "I'm cool with doing ordering. I haven't Donne it myself but I've seen it done at home, so I think I'd just need to learn the specifics."

"Cool," said Summer, breathing out a little in visible relief because she didn't even want to think about what would happen otherwise. Well, she suppose Apu would take it up, but she honestly half-feared that he would refuse on principle alone. "And the specifics are...well, we'll get to it, we'll go over it today if you've got time, because it's one thing dealing with dozens of different vendors like a normal store, but then you add in the fact that we're dealing with orders from dozens of different dimensions, too, so it's a bit more complicated. Once you get the hang of it, though, it's nothing, don't worry."

Janet... didn't feel super confident in ordering from different dimensions given that she barely understood all that to begin with, but she wasn't going to say that.

"No problem," she said with a bright smile. "We can start whenever you want. I'm sure it'll all go great."

Better than what she'd imagine Shunsui doing, anyway, which was pretty much nothing but glitter and booze, probably, so even if Janet completely screwed it up, they were still probably going to wind up better off.

"I'm sure it will, too," she agreed with a smile back. "But how's everything else been going? Pretty good so far?"

Summer, why did you even care, this place was going to be left in space dust soon, why did it even matter?

But this place had been her baby for a year (WHUT, how?) now, so it did matter, and she was leaving it in the hand of that man, and she was having so many regrets, and it wasn't even all just tied into the fact that if she still had to take care of things here then she could put off having to go out there at least a little bit longer...

"Yeah," Janet nodded. "It's pretty easy, I haven't had any trouble... The new guy offered me alcohol on the job the first day, but I saw right through it and turned him down."

She was just going to refuse that had been a real offer.

"...he offered you alcohol?" Summer asked, then blinked, then shook her head and rolled her eyes and grunted, rubbing her forehead a little. "Wait. No. That actually does not surprise me, like, at all. Geez..."

"It's okay, it had to just be a test," Janet assured her. "Especially after I told him my age."
